Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

I actually think NJ needs a few more years and they might do some damage.

Agreed Hughes needs to stay healthy, but their core is young, and good, they still have some pieces who need to become NHLers, and then they just need to figure out goaltending.
Very young still. Barring the unexpected, jersey should be a strong team for a long time.

Carolina, I'm not so sure. Their refusal to ever upgrade their goaltending will pooch them again this year.

Ah yes, St Louis was known for their offensive ability that year, good comparison, hockey knowledge = 0.

There was a thread before where people generally though our team was worse than St Loius', so good job.

Which year did Berube have the least amount of influence on the team? Was it the year he was brought in half way through without a training camp or the other ones?

I am glad he had a good run with a hot goalie, I hope he does it again, I just won't hold my breath, I assume that was not the norm for him and the rest was, since that seems to be the consistent level that his teams play at.

Just FYI on St Louis' team...

Their D was: Petro, Bouwmeester, Parayko, Edmundson, Gunnarsson, and Dunn
They had: ROR, Tarasenko, Schenn, Schwartz, Perron, Barbashev, Sundqvist, Thomas, Steen, Bozak

They had great D, and good depth up front.
That's some elite talent right there. If we had that lineup we wouldn't even be considered a contender, especially since Marner isn't on that team.

Carolina is always going to be really good but never great in my opinion.

With the Glass injury it was Markstrom who slashed him with his stick accidentally when he was trying to slash a Canes player in front of him. Sucks for the friendly fire. As for Markstrom I'm glad the Leafs never traded for him because I never understood why he was so highly rated when his career numbers have been pretty average if not mediocre outside of one good season with the Flames and his playoff stats have been pretty bad as well.

He's got the Michael Jordan intensity thing. Maybe not to the same degree, but it's pretty close. When you combine that with his skill...yeah.
Really amazing to see the evolution of Mack.

He came in and won the Calder then Avs was supposed to be great with Duchense, ROR, Landy, and Barrie with that Russian goalie and Roy behind the bench. Then things just went from great to bad to worst to rock bottom.

At one point Mack was put on RW bc they believed he couldn’t cut it at C and being a winger is better for him. And the next thing you know, he almost won the Hart and never looked back.

Imagine the Leafs traded for him when Avs thought he is bad at C and needed to be a RW?

Hartman cross checked to the face throwing him on to the ice with force while the ref is hands on knees staring at it from a few feet away and no penalty, lol.

Wonder if that has to do with his new ten game suspension brand.

Edit: make up call came quick though

Markstrom Hextall'ing his own man was a tough look. Luke Hughes writhing in pain during live action was also not the best look.

I dunno, I don't think New Jersey is anywhere close to contention. I think it'll take good health, a lot more maturation and probably some massive roster turnover for that group to mature. They're probably just entering those painful learning lessons years.

LOL - Yzerplan getting the "WTF" LMAO

Hard to blame them for feeling that way.
I’ve said it here, a stand pat deadline is often going to be interpreted by the players as a vote of no confidence.

Don’t have to sell the farm, but this is a team that very very clearly could have used some help and maybe if their management actually did it they wouldn’t have let a player birth slip away for the second year in a row.

Larkin is now 28 years old and it’s entirely arguable that he has never played a meaningful NHL game.

Big yikes, Canucks are imploding fast after being last year's darlings of the league - JT Miller gone, Boeser probably gone, Hughes future uncertain, Tocchet might not be back, and now their first rounder from 2023 Tom Willander is causing a stink with his contract situation and may stay in college or request a trade. Things are getting ugly out in Vancouver.

That's a grim looking roster, if Boeser bolts as a expected, and Petterssen doesn't have a rebound. But what can they do? If Quinn wants out, and wants to go to NJD, it's basically rebuild time for the Canucks.

It’s a beautiful thing.
Anyway. Go Caps, Blues, Kings and Stars tonight.

Would be surprised if Tocchet doesn't take the job with the Flyers.
