Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

It’s gotta be so deflating as a team where you just ask your goalie to make the basic saves. And he can never do it. That’s a good shot but Andersen has to stop that

Classic Freddy, even in a good one sided game he could never just get a shutout because he needed to allow one garbage goal late in the game

NJ might be down their most important (subjective, cry) D and F, their 2nd best D, and their 3C...

Somehow they will push to game 7 if it was another team they were playing, but Carolina is too consistent for this

Had a below .500 that playoff...

Funny enough, despite all that losing, Berube and him have a similar winning %, not something fun to think about.
Yeah having to coach a team with Ryan O'Rielly as your #1C is probably a tough thing to do. Imagine him as your 3C though. No doubt a team would win a cup with him as your 3C or even 2C.

At the end of the day though I see that Cup he won so it's fun to think we have a coach who got it done with lesser talent.

devils just got spanked

if Luke Hughes is also now out this is gonna be a quick series

i think fully healthy (hamilton, J hughes, siegenthaler) this could've been a decent series. Devils have half the team playing one spot too high in the lineup because of it.

Ah yes, St Louis was known for their offensive ability that year, good comparison, hockey knowledge = 0.

There was a thread before where people generally though our team was worse than St Loius', so good job.

Which year did Berube have the least amount of influence on the team? Was it the year he was brought in half way through without a training camp or the other ones?

I am glad he had a good run with a hot goalie, I hope he does it again, I just won't hold my breath, I assume that was not the norm for him and the rest was, since that seems to be the consistent level that his teams play at.

Just FYI on St Louis' team...

Their D was: Petro, Bouwmeester, Parayko, Edmundson, Gunnarsson, and Dunn
They had: ROR, Tarasenko, Schenn, Schwartz, Perron, Barbashev, Sundqvist, Thomas, Steen, Bozak

They had great D, and good depth up front.

I expected this, maybe not to this extent, but I assumed it'd be lopsided and Devils would struggle to generate much.

9-10-1 without Hughes
12-14-1 without Siegenthaler

They limped into the playoffs with some important injuries and are playing arguably the most consistent team in the league.
But will Rod respect them in the handshake line?

Probably, he knows Keefe is a good coach
It's interesting that they struggle so much without Jack Hughes, and yet Hughes struggles so much in tight-checking games. Jersey still had at least a few years to figure things out given how young they are, but Hughes needs to find a way to stay on the ice. He's becoming pretty injury prone.

I actually think NJ needs a few more years and they might do some damage.

Agreed Hughes needs to stay healthy, but their core is young, and good, they still have some pieces who need to become NHLers, and then they just need to figure out goaltending.
