Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

Here is a fun what-if or more like a should-have-been.... since Gretzky records are in the news

McDavid is currently at 99 points this season. Assuming he gets to 100, That gives him 5 consecutive 100 point seasons. Only the 13th person to do that. Of those 12 people seasons only 1 got beyond 6. Gretzky at 13 years.

However, that said. in 19-20, when the season shut down early due to covid. McDavid had 97 points. Assuming he would get those 3 points. He should be at 9 consecutive seasons of 100+ points.

Did anyone think 25 years ago someone would get 14 consecutive 100 point seasons?

Hart: MacKinnon or Hellebuyck
Lindsay: Kucherov
Norris: Makar
Calder: Hutson
Vezina: Hellebuyck
Art Ross: MacKinnon
Rocket: Draisaitl
Selke: Barkov
Adams: Carberry
Byng: Kopitar

Pure Awesomeness: Ovi (gotta give him something. dude broke his leg and came back to break the record and have the highest goal scoring pace since then)

btw Canucks are already eliminated from playoff contention
You missed the big one.

Smyth Nylander! Or Matthews. Or Marner. Or Stolarz. I could care less who wins it. As long as they wear blue and white.

A lot of banged up players there.

What a disaster this season has turned out to be. Jeff Jackson was being hailed as the king of the 2024 off-season, but just about every move has backfired. Skinner and Arvidsson have stunk up the joint, and they doubled down on Perry, Janmark, Henrique and Connor Brown, who along with Skinner, Arvidsson, and Kapanen who they claimed off waivers take up ~14M of their cap. Only Perry and maybe Brown have been decent value this year from that group. They also kept around a guy like Kulak instead of making room for Broberg, who along with Holloway got fleeced away by a Doug Armstrong masterclass. Then there's guys like Hyman who just took a step back as well - the team peaked last year and found lightning in a bottle and have regressed since.

Embarrassing really.

Hey, don't knock Connor Brown. He finally scored.:naughty:

the Leaf playoff struggles hav popularity been noted but LA’s struggles against Edmonton have flown under the radar.

The pressure this post season is largely on them and the Jets

Anyone know why Ekblad is allowed to practice with the Panthers before his suspension is officially over? Did they change the rule? I thought suspended meant he couldn’t be with the team?

This upcoming Edmonton-LA series reminds me of the Leafs-Sens round 2 in 2002. Leafs were similarly beat up and injured and had dominated Ottawa in the playoffs similarly to how Edmonton has done LA. If there were a series those Sens were gonna win against the Leafs it was that one when we were walking wounded and Ottawa started that series healthy.

Of course Gary Roberts, Alyn McCauley, and Alexander Mogilny had a thing or two to say about that. I expect McDavid and Draisaitl will also have a couple of things to say before LA can slay them. But then Edmonton doesn't have a CuJo level goalie in net. Pickard is unproven and Skinner has been real inconsistent.

I'm taking LA to win that series in our pool.

I would not be surprised if Ovi gets the Masterton.
Came back from a broken leg to break the record and score over a PPG as a 39 year old

Dedication and perseverance
