Sadly, having missed 13-14 games I think kind of locks Hughes out - that and that while he is great I think Makar is definitely a clear step above him. And yeah he plays with better talent, so?

Hilarious and sad that two years ago the Cucks had Hughes-EP-Boeser-Miller-Horvat-Demko and now Miller and Horvat are gone, Boeser will be gone in a few months, Demko is probably permanently broken and EP is a shell of himself (15-30-45...THAT'S your 'Mack/Matthews/Barkov tier C? Matthews hasn't been great either but he still has 30-44-74 in as many games!). You really see Hughes sticking around when his deal is up in 2 years time?

Yeah glass houses and all that - the current era Leafs sleepwalk to high playoff spots every year, they don't do much when they get there but they're a competitive team day in and out.

While everyone pines for McDavid, I sit and wish the Leafs could sign Hughes.

Hughes on the Leafs right now would make them easy Cup favourites. Controls the game when he is on the ice.

Damn right, I'd love to have him on the team. Team hasn't had a legitimate threat back there since black and white TV. Borje was great but he wasn't ever a franchise guy, Kaberle and Mo were both top 20-30 OFD with defensive shortcomings at peak, but Hughes is a stud.

He'll end up in Jersey with his brothers and then watch the f*** out.

Hard to believe that just a couple years ago everyone, including me, still thought Jack was gonna be the better player.

He might still end up the best of the bunch one day but he sure ain't now.

And everyone said Benning was the problem.

That team is almost ready for another rebuild but I doubt Aquillini will allow one.

I do worry that if Marner walks - and truly if he wants 14, or even 13 he can, I wouldn't give him a cent above 12 unless he wins the Conn Smythe - that they'll throw Boeser something stupid like 9.5.

I'd love to have him as well but Boeser is worth maybe 7.5 accounting for the rising cap, will absolutely miss time and aside from one outlier year prorates to about a 30-30-60 guy.

I would hate if they signed Boeser.

No speed, kind of soft. Seems exactly who they would sign.

The 30 goals would help and he has been good in the playoffs but he seems more of the same

Boeser hasn't missed a lot of games the last four years it only looks that way because two of those years were the covid years.

Two Boeser's or one Marner. I'll take the two Boeser's. Marner can go somewhere else to count his money.

A couple guys who can put the puck in the net and keep their mouth shut would do this team a lot of good.

Nope. To me it would be like losing Tanev for the playoffs, if given a choice I think I'd rather have Matthews out instead. I guess that does sound crazy but it's how I would feel.

I think Hughes is the best player in the NHL and should clean up this year.

Unfortunately for Hughes he probably goes home empty handed. Makar will likely win the Norris. And if Vancouver misses the playoffs I don't expect Hughes will win the Hart or Ted Lindsay either.

Even though he probably deserves to win all three.

Any word on when the first Leafs playoffs game would start?

They end the season this Thursday. I guess Saturday would be too early.

Maybe Sunday or Monday?
 
I believe I saw TB has lost Bjorkstrand week to week. Still got their main guys obviously but he was probably their best depth scorer and with Gourde made them a 3 line deep team ad now they are back to relying on 2 lines. Probably not a big deal but we do need them to just lose 1 game out of 3.

Rangers are a total clusterf*** right now on and off the ice. They need to burn that shit down but they extended Shesterkin so they're not getting in the Top 5 picks.

Yep. Shesterkin's retirement deal starts next season, and the team is in the toilet. You hate to see it (not really).
