Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

Officially eliminated, the Wings will miss the playoffs for the 9th straight season

The Yzerplan in action!

We missed the playoffs 9 seasons out of 10 from 2005-2006 to 2015-2016 so we know how that feels like, and we didn't have the success the Wings had before they started missing the playoffs. It would have been 10 straight seasons out of the playoffs if the 2012-2013 season was 82 games instead of 48.

Must be an injury that can’t be fixed without surgery. They tried him last game and he lasted only for two minutes (ha ha). Nurse has been better this year but that’s a brutal loss.

Should have won last year. Now things look very dicey. Is McDavid gonna re-sign after July 1st? Or is he going into next season as a pending UFA? Yikes!

Winnipeg fans taking swipes at the Leafs playoff failures on the main boards is pretty rich when you look at their playoff history.

Over the past 6 playoffs we’ve won 10 more games than Winnipeg has. TEN!

In that time they have 3 playoffs they only won a single game. And one year they didn’t even make it.

Trenin just hammered Forbort with a late punch after their fight went to the ground - Forbort hurt.

Embarrassing, that ain't hockey code.

Edit: Trenin booted from game. Tried to attack Canucks on the way out.

Hart - Q. Hughes (Kucherov)
Ted Lindsay - Q. Hughes (Kucherov)
Norris - Q. Hughes (Makar)
Calder - Hutson (Michkov)
Vezina - Helleybuck (Vasilevsky)
Art Ross - Kucherov (MacKinnon)
Selke - Barkov (Kopitar)
Richard - Draisaitl (Nylander)
Jack Adams - Carbery (Hynes)
Lady Byng - Who cares

I think Hughes is the best player in the NHL and should clean up this year.

Unfortunately for Hughes he probably goes home empty handed. Makar will likely win the Norris. And if Vancouver misses the playoffs I don't expect Hughes will win the Hart or Ted Lindsay either.

Even though he probably deserves to win all three.

If the Hart truly meant most valuable player, it really would come down to Hughes and Pasta.

Mack has Makar

Kuch has Vasi and Point

McDavid has Drai.

Hughes and Pasta have no one.

Hart: Draisaitl
Lindsay: MacKinnon
Norris: Makar
Calder: Hutson
Vezina: Hellebuyck
Art Ross: Kucherov
Rocket: Draisaitl
Selke: Barkov
Adams: Carberry
Byng: IDK Point I guess.

The Selke is a reputation trophy, the Calder, Vezina and Adams will be unanimous or close to it.

Sadly, having missed 13-14 games I think kind of locks Hughes out - that and that while he is great I think Makar is definitely a clear step above him. And yeah he plays with better talent, so?

Hilarious and sad that two years ago the Cucks had Hughes-EP-Boeser-Miller-Horvat-Demko and now Miller and Horvat are gone, Boeser will be gone in a few months, Demko is probably permanently broken and EP is a shell of himself (15-30-45...THAT'S your 'Mack/Matthews/Barkov tier C? Matthews hasn't been great either but he still has 30-44-74 in as many games!). You really see Hughes sticking around when his deal is up in 2 years time?

Yeah glass houses and all that - the current era Leafs sleepwalk to high playoff spots every year, they don't do much when they get there but they're a competitive team day in and out.
