Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

Their forward group is world class, but that defence, especially the right side, leaves something to be desired. Granted they’re injured back there right now but still. Heiskanen has to play on his off side to make their right defence respectable, and Nils Lundkvist isn’t a world-beater and shouldn’t collapse your defence.

Ceci and Lyubushkin in your top 4 ain't exactly a recipe for success lol.

Kinda reminds me of some of the Leafs teams in the core 4 era where they had dynamic forwards but a questionable group of D

They desperately need Heiskanen back to knock everyone down a spot or two. I wonder if they'll load up the top pair or spread out the wealth by having Heiskanen and Harley carry their own pairs...thinking the latter. Who knows when he'll come back, though

Never thought I would ever care about a Mon/Ott game but now it might be must watch tonight.

Kind of hope Mon wins to make that race interesting as well
Guessing it’s not televised in our region?

You are most likely correct. Stupid NHL blackout rules.

They only blackout a game when it is being shown on regional television.

Amd then they only blackout for that region so viewers in that area can't watch the national broadcast. So if it is in Montreal it will be all Quebec and franco-Ontario regions blacked out. If it is in Ottawa they blackout the Rideau-Gatineau-Hull area.

The national broadcast will be available to everyone else in the country including us.

I don't know if it's Regional or National tonight.

Usually both Ottawa and Montreal are Regional, but they might make it a National broadcast tonight

I just assume everyone has sportsnet+ like I do for some reason and they always play every national broadcast.

Actually they play pretty much every game in the NHL except the blacked out Leafs ones.

SKA St. Petersburg announces that they have granted Alexander Nikishin release to join the Carolina Hurricanes.

Top defensive prospect Alexander Nikishin seems to be well on his way to joining the Carolina Hurricanes as he was just released from his KHL contract with SKA St. Petersburg.

His contract was set to expire on May 31, but the mutually agreed termination will allow him to make his way to North America immediately once a visa and contract with Carolina is squared away.

Nikishin, 23, is regarded as one of the best players outside of the NHL.

A rare combination of size (6-foot-4, 220lbs) and skill (consistent top scoring KHL defenseman), Nikishin plays in all situations and can burn you with his abilities or his physicality.

The former SKA captain is the KHL's all-time record holder for the most single season points by a Russian-born blueliner (56), a record which he set twice in back-to-back years.

The 6-foot-4 blueliner is also SKA's all-time leader in points by a defenseman, finishing his KHL career with 157 in 193 games.

The 2020 third-round pick (acquired from Buffalo in exchange for Jeff Skinner) looks to be a true diamond in the rough game-changer if he can carry over his game to the NHL level.

There's still the matter of an NHL deal, although it was reported by Russian reporter Artur Khairullin that it will be a two-year ELC that starts this season, as well as acquiring a visa for the Russian blueliner, but perhaps he'll be able to make it in time to play in a few regular season games.

In this case TSN is too busy showing the Masters, so naturally for SN, they just pick this up since this is a big game.

It’s a National game since it’s on Sportsnet, Habs or Sens have TSN as regional partners.

Regionally many years ago, Sens and Habs agreed to share their 2 regions, so no regional games have been blacked out between those 2 teams since.

Sens asked leafs if they wanted to do the same, leafs declined.
It’s a win win for fans as less blackouts.

Here is Senators regional schedule from start of year, was never on TSN.
