Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

Oddly enough the only difference in 1-8 is the Leafs would play NJD and Carolina would get Ottawa, if the season ended today. But there’s a pretty good chance that the first round matchups are the same with either format in the eastern side.
I'm not talking about one year, I'm talking about the repetition.

I was thinking about the next player who eventually attempts to track down Gretzky and Ovechkin.

Getting to 801 isn't the toughest part although it is tough. Once you get there though, it's a long, long drive on a desolate highway to get to Hotel 894. It took Ovechkin parts of 3 different seasons to get there.

Then once you get there, you'll have to refuel and get to your final destination wherever Ovechkin decides to build his hotel in the desert.

Have fun.

He’s probably not even born yet.

Matthews may pace to at least attempt to get close. But you're right, in that getting to 500 is one thing. 600 and 700 will be attainable. 800 may be doable. That's double the goals he has now. But beyond that, at the age he'll be trying to do it at, it gets tougher.

To put it in context -- which I always found mind-bobbling -- Matthews will need to average from here ten 50-goal seasons to beat the record (not accounting that Ovi will now blow through 900).

For someone not even in the league, or born yet as Nineteen67 pointed out above, that player will need to have 18 50-goal seasons or 15 60-goal seasons. It's crazy thinking about it like that. Even crazier that we witnessed Ovechkin do it, when we thought it would never be done.

I only like Calgary among the other Canadian teams. Montreal is self-explanatory, the Jets were surprisingly hostile when they returned despite everyone and their mothers feeling happy for them, and Ottawa, Edmonton, and Vancouver all have little brother syndrome.

I think Calgarians have a healthy dislike of all things Toronto as well but their fans have such a minimal online presence compared to everyone else that any hostility from them is drowned out or missing.
Same here. Don't mind Calgary, because truth be told, they're pretty irrelevant.

Order of hated Canadian teams for me is:
1. Ottawa
2. Montreal
3. Jets
4. Oilers
5. Canucks

It’s looking like these Ottawa playoff tickets might be tough to get. They are releasing tickets to Sens STH’s first and you have to buy them for all 4 round. If they get eliminated they only charge you for 1 round but if they go in a run they keep charging you for each game.

That seems pretty standard. For the Leafs, you have to commit to 4 rounds but are only charged for a game once it's announced.

That’s how all teams do playoffs tickets.

Some more comparisons

Will tie Gordie for even strength goals next goal.

At this point Matthews is 497 goals back which would require 38.23 goals per season average for 13 straight seasons.

This takes him through his age 28-40 seasons.

Ovechkin has averaged 42.8 goals over his past 13 seasons. (Age 27-39 seasons)

Never mind the finals. Leafs are damn near dead last even reaching the Conference Finals.

Need a run big time this year

Piling on, but I also think the Leafs have the fewest amount of Round 2 (and technically beyond) wins since the 04-05 lockout. We’ve got 1 win in round two. For their part, Columbus has 2 wins and Seattle despite being an infant got 3 in 2023.

Calgary also never goes far but in two second round trips they’ve got 2 wins so they still come out ahead. Minnesota despite not making the Final Four themselves since 2003 have 2 second round wins.

Agreed. They are the only other fanbase that is tolerable.
