Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

Caps are pretty interesting - proven a lot of staying power. After a cinderella season, they will also have a comparably easy playoff path - fans will go nuts.

I wonder though, can Strome hang battling middle ice against Point, Barkov, Mattys? Will Sandin on the first pairing get worked? Can Thompson do playoff stakes? A newish team, at least together, for deep playoff hockey.

So far pretty impressive.

I think PLD gets the tough assignments defensively.

There's a guy who's done a total 180. Last year, he was constantly blasted for underachieving and being a lazy POS. This season, he's been a pro and a tremendous all-situations player.

We saw glimpses of what he could do in that CLB/TOR series. He struggled with consistency for years.

They have a good one-two punch at centre now that Strome and Dubios have become the players they were expected to be.

I always liked PLD. Thought he was a stud.

He always should have been a stud. However, he seems moody, and has often put up far less than maximum effort, leading to him wearing out his welcome very quickly in multiple cities. 26 years old, and on your fourth team is never a good sign.

But, it's amazing that for now, he seems to have found a good place for him, and perhaps he's finally realizing his potential.

PLD is a legit Selke contender this year, incredible turnaround for him.

Amazing accomplishment for Leivo, but man, has the KHL quality ever taken a beating the last few years. It's hard to take performances there very seriously.

Grebenkin scored more points in the KHL last year, than he will in the AHL this year...

If Ottawa isn't careful, they are going to lose that first wild card spot.
Which two teams are passing them? The 18 wheeler would need to go off the cliff for them to drop out of a WC stop.

It's only the first wild card spot that they are at risk of losing. Only Montreal has a chance to catch them. The Rangers are done, but the Habs still have a chance to catch Ottawa. That would be ideal for the Leafs as a first round series against Montreal would be a dream.

Bad news from Columbus with the panthers winning 1-0 in overtime, but here’s some good news for us: against the lightning tonight, the stars came back from a 2-goal deficit to tie the game 2-2 after 2.

Where have I heard that one before?

Dubas is the GM equivalent of a first round baby. Gets continual opportunities that are undeserved. This guy is the textbook definition of privilege.
Plenty of People in the hockey world also believe he’s still that promising, smart wiz kid with great potential, destined for a great career in NHL management.

in their minds, they’re thinking : ‘’he is still young and hasn’t unlocked his potential as a GM yet, but if we are patient enough with him, it’s only a matter of time he will accomplish great things and build great teams’’.

That’s why NHL organizations will always give him chance after chance, they’re hoping that he reaches his full potential.

And he’s also a nepo baby, by the way.

Here’s the proof :
