Agree to disagree. I deal in negotiations almost daily, negotiations are situational and there are too many variables at play to approach things with a black and white 'I go high, you go low' playbook. One size doesn't fit all here, it's all about leverage and knowing who you're dealing with. There were 22 teams Rantanen could've been traded to without his consent, the player and his camp didn't have nearly the leverage they believed they had, which was an oversight. Played chicken with a well known no nonsense/ aggressive front office.Asking $14M, if even true, doesn’t mean that’s what he actually was looking to end to at.
Players starts high and team starts low.
Not a misread.
The fact they didn’t even tell Rantanen he was on the block before trading him to try to make a deal indicates to me the Avs were not going to budge from their offer.
It seems counterintuitive because it’s a lot of money and narrowly edges Panarin for top winger salary in the league, but with the way the cap has grown and is projected for a massive increase this summer, 11.75M is actually very arguably a lowball

Not sure what the number will be but he absolutely deserves more than Rantanen.
Tampa on pace for 93 points right now holding the last Wildcard spot but with games in hand. With the eastern conference beating each other each night I wonder what the cut off will be for w2. You think same as usual 92-94 ish pts ?
He is an unassuming fighter but can sure knock your socks off.Schenn with the tko of JT Miller flush on the nose
I'd love to see Crosby start and finish his career with the Penguins. There is something to that for me that adds to a player's legacy. At least the Pens lowered their league worst GAA tonight.
Team is completely cooked.
Just amazing how the coach still has his job. Dubas really just an administrator here. More coaches has been fired for lessI'd love to see Crosby start and finish his career with the Penguins. There is something to that for me that adds to a player's legacy.
But man, it'd be an absolute waste to see him rot on that team as he winds down his career. He still has quite a bit in the tank to help a team make a push for the Cup. It's not like a Washington Capitals situation where a smart and quick retool will see them in the playoffs again and can be an outside contender.
I know he is extremely loyal and says he wants to retire a Penguin, but there might be a conversation to be had that is more than just feeling him out.
It's not fair that Dubie is just GM and President, he needs to be owner as well then watch him fly.Just amazing how the coach still has his job. Dubas really just an administrator here. More coaches has been fired for less
Looks like it doesn't matter whether you finish 2nd or 1st. There is not much incentive really. Look who is in 3rd now. Ottawa. If we finish 1st, we could still face them or Boston or Tampa. Same if we finish 2nd. It really makes 0 difference. This playoff format sucks.

It's nice to see a bit of honesty. There isn't much of that in the world anymore. I think Vancouver should trade both of them, but I would prioritize trading EP. Yes, he is younger and flashier, but from the outside he looks more like a passenger than a leader. Meanwhile, Vancouver has maybe the best defenseman in the entire league, and they are wasting him on this silly personality conflict.Old man Rutherford doesn’t know when to keep quiet:
