Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

Necas looked really good. Made a few nice plays including both assists, and hit iron 3 times. Doesn't look out of place on that top PP unit

I think the Avs will be fine without Rantanen
Necas is a decent downgrade from MR. I don't think Colorado was a threat to wij anything anyway, but this isn't a positive event for Colorado.

So in a year and half will they have the same contract issue with him? In the meantime, they won't win anything.
It's hard to imagine Necas can command Ranta money next year.

Their win power is Necas, plus what they can do with the cap space (supported with a 2nd and 4th), plus Drury, over an extended timeline.

Not an easy decision, so it won't be easy to come out on top, but I think there is a good chance they will.

Whenever I watch Mitch Marner hang around the blueline and go fancy foot work, I occasionally wonder if he wouldn't be happier playing the modern point guard role on defense that Quinn Hughes plays. He would have to ratchet up the puck retrieval part of his game and have that jump to turn up ice from his own goal line, and defend from a defense position, and have a point shot threat, but offensively, I see a few stylistic tendencies which would suit Marner. Not advocating for it but he wouldn't have to go to the net...
Going to be had bc Hughes is fast while MM is above average

Thanks to Vegas, the Leafs are still in ok position for the Division title. One point up on Florida with a game in hand. Hopefully this extended break between games allows guys to get healthy and come back. Only positive having to wait three days between games.

Looks like it doesn't matter whether you finish 2nd or 1st. There is not much incentive really. Look who is in 3rd now. Ottawa. If we finish 1st, we could still face them or Boston or Tampa. Same if we finish 2nd. It really makes 0 difference. This playoff format sucks.

Or they can run into Sherk and the Rangers which would be a struggle too.

Stolarz, Tanev and OEL will have to be rocks while our core has to outperform the demons of yester years.

I think defensively and in net they should be ready. I just havn't seen enough to say with any confidence they will be able to svore enough again

It does make a huge difference, because home ice throughout the playoffs becomes critical.
