Calgary better not draft or trade for anymore Americans. Strange as Calgary was listed as the #7 city on the planet as far as best livable cities in the world yesterday. Seems the people who did the ranking aren't hockey fans.

Seems Sutter really poisoned the well in Calgary.

I don't think it has anything to do with Sutter to be honest. Seravalli reported that Lindholm wants out too.

These players aren't dumb, even they can look at the team and see aging, unsuccessful core locked up forever, few if any impact prospects, the worst facility in the NHL, a cheapskate owner, a high tax market, a cold market, and about as uninspiring a GM and coach hire you can get. If I'm 30+ and looking at what I want to do with the rest of my career singing long term there to flounder in mediocrity isn't it.

I'll be interested to see who will be the new players in the revolving door of the "best" centers and defense group in the league.

Id put money down for bell being the most crooked company in Canada.
#2 behind the Federal Government. The country is also a business so not political. I'm circumventing the posting rule like Vegas circumvents the cap.;):D

Nothing to do with Sutter imo. They all know they aren’t winning there.

Sutter was the poison cherry on top. Players after a year in his kind of hell just want to move on.

Lots of talk from media pre-Sutter that he was a massive problem. His poison is still in the players given the team backed Sutter over Treliving causing Treliving to go to Toronto. Then do an about face and fire Sutter.

Players want to move on. I don’t think they trust the Flames ownership on top of everything else you and @K1984 mentioned.

I wonder if any of these players wind up in Toronto as Conroy is being asked to have a Summer of Treliving on 1 month experience. I can see Treliving fleecing the shit out of his understudy here.

I think it has more to do with not being a future contender than Sutter but who knows.

In theory, if the Flames disposed of these players in the right way (50% contract retention, seek only picks and quality prospects/young players) they could get a haul that could spring board them to actually building a team back up again.

However, I really, really hope that they stick to the "no rebuild!" mantra and try and work hockey deals out of these trades to try and stay competitive. Fingers crossed.

you mean that massive Huberdeau addition and bloated contract wasn't enough to entice him to stay?

Yup, let’s see what sort of reverse paper clip trades they can do like Tkachuk for two aging secondary talents

It looks to me like Vancouver, Winnipeg and Calgary are all on the verge of a major rebuilding program. Their veterans and proven talent seem to want the exit door. Ottawa and Montreal aren't much different.

Let's hope that Mc-D and Drai sign extensions because the near term future for the other Canadian clubs doesn't look sweet. The Oilers may be the only real Canadian threat to win it all.

I think its all part of a longer term trend where players gravitate to the South. The sad legacy of Mr. Bettman.
