yeah except no big name ufa has ever come here. The devils had their list of players who wanted to leave here just as well. It’s the same situation some cities players just don’t want to play in

During the Lou years, this team was struggling to just retain its own star players let alone bringing in other top UFA's (which wasn't really in Lou's playbook anyway).

In more recent years, this team has largely sucked which makes it less desirable to UFA's. Which big name players have they really gone after? Shattenkirk & Panarin, both of whom really wanted to play in NYC?

Given how most UFA signings have turned out, it's probably a good thing they were not attracting top UFA's as we could've been saddled with some really bad contracts.

We'll see how things turn out once the Devils are competitive again and if they do go after any big name UFA's, but I don't think our situation is remotely comparable to a team like Buffalo and Winnipeg, which is always going to struggle to attract quality UFA's. I think we're closer to being in the middle - not a destination team, but also not a team players go out of their way to avoid.

If the Rags were somehow able to trade for Eichel, and Breadman, Trouba or Kreider weren't part of the deal, then the Rags would have 4 players using up 43.1% of their cap space. Then add on top of that all the guys they needs to pay including Shesterkin this offseason. Basically, the numbers don't add up.

This is why I'd almost like to see them add Eichel, as they would be such a top heavy team.

You'd really have to give up a lot of assets to get Buffalo to take on another bad (or at least potentially bad) contract in Trouba or Kreider, considering what they've already got on the books with Skinner & Okposo.

That is one of the reasons I am hoping the Rags trade for Eich. It would be a similar situation to TML with respect to a top heavy team.
