GDT: Around the League - 2021/22 - Playoffs edition

My thought always was to reduce regular season
Have play in round for 7-10 place teams and the rest playoffs to determine draft order
Players may not care for picks but the higher u pick the greater chance of making your team better is?!

Just a thought anyways

While it makes for an interesting idea in theory, that which amounts to "playoff spots for everyone" potentially serves to dilute the importance and significance from the Stanley Cup Playoffs IMO.

Yeah but some of those players wouldn't be around to see those picks through, let alone the following year due to FA status, trades, etc.

Maybe if they got paid more....but it's still an unlikely scenario. Plus, the NHL wants those awful teams to get high picks to potentially accelerate their rebuilds

Man what was Klingberg doing on Calgary's first goal? He can't be playing important minutes if the Stars want a good shot at winning the series. Complete liability out there

At least Heiskanan showed up late in the 2nd

Every thing you say makes total sense

Just me thinking of the what ifs lol
This playoffs wouldn’t be full playoffs of course, single game elimination or 2 out of 3 at most but would this entice aweful teams to not be so aweful and not tank as much by getting rid of players?l since they need to win to get top picks.

It would reduce trades maybe which I hate, anything to increase trades for me is like Christmas haha

To eliminate tanking, give all non-playoff teams the same odds to win the lottery and let it determine the whole draft order. Standings are completely ignored

Something like that lol

Why do you not want the worst teams to have the best chance of improving? Sounds like a recipe to have perennial basement dwellers

I think it would encourage worst teams not to tank
Not to trade away all their ufa at deadline to try and win the elimination playoff for the top pick
It would make the games at the end of the season more competitive I think
When a team is going through a rebuild they literally lose 3/4 years of their franchise trying to rebuild, if it goes well

I just hate the lottery
Lottery doesn’t also guarantee worst team gets #1 pick but if they do the rest of roster is still bad that it will still take time

Dave Morrison's best pick. IIRC he was drafted in the 3rd round. Dave Morrison also drafted Connor Brown while he was here.

He's now the head of pro scouting I think.
