Pavelski, a Shark player worth pursuing early in the rebuild. Instead we sign two floaters like Marleau and Thornton.

Never should have picked up Marleau and Thornton in the first place.

At least with Thornton, he was 700k. Pavelski makes 7 mill. Big difference there. Pavelski was also a lot younger.

Lou giving Marleau that deal is just par for the course in his career. He generally sucks at signing free agents.

Honestly, if Marleau was dead set on 18m and Lou had to have him, Lou was better off handing out 9m per for two seasons when we had the extra cap space.

5 assists for Tkachuk ... Quietly having over a PPG season
Any thoughts on his contract demands? Gonna be crazy I assume.

I'm guessing he just takes the $9 million QO and leaves as a UFA to the biggest offer he can get after next season. The only way I see him signing long term in Calgary is if they offer him something insane, like the nipping McDavid's heels for highest paid player in the league kind of crazy.

Not in a million year will anybody give MT anything close to McDavid money.

The Tkachuk's love money and will bleed out every last cent they can. He's making 9 now, with another 9 QO coming up, do you think he's giving up going to UFA and staying in Calgary for anything less than 10+ per year?

Not saying he's worth that at all, I could see him cashing in and putting up ~25G, 50-60pts for the rest of his contract. But like I said, I fully expect him to walk straight to UFA and go to the highest bidder unless Calgary offers something crazy, and I think that would need to be at least 10 per, maybe 11+.

A desperate GM could go to 10 but I do not consider that "nipping at McDavid's heels".
