Don’t think he was progressing as the Wings would have liked him to. Change of scenery may also benefit and he should get ample opportunity with the Caps.

I like that line too, big fan of Larkin. And I think he'll get that chance ,and minutes in Motown.

He is a beast and wasn't on a team with alot of talent and still put up decent numbers, goals and possession wise. Given he'll be playing on a much better team, surrounded by talent and having a different mindset teamwise, I think he'll do great.


Caps needed Panik off the books, s othey gave up an extra pick.

That was 2 seasons ago and he had 24 the year before. He has 95 goals in 302 games , which is a decent average. Playing on a better team, better linemates, better PP, etc. will be a big difference.

This season doesn't count? He's not hitting a 25 goal pace this year either. I dunno just seems like a lot for an oft injured guy who's gonna be 27 at the start of next year. Chances of him doing that well again aren't that great, but we'll see.

Florida gave up a recent former first rounder in Henrik Borgstrom to dump Brett Connolly's contract (2 x 3.5), so similar thing happened with the Caps including Richard Panik's contract (2 x 2.75). Depending on how you feel about Borgstrom, the deal could be viewed like:

Vrana + 2nd rounder for Mantha
Panik + 1st rounder to clear the cap space

Caps figure Vrana's impending new contract will be close to Mantha's AAV, so they bought some breathing space under the cap. It's to gauge this draft without everybody playing, but it had a bit of a 2012 vibe for me. 1st rounder sounds sexy, but sometimes it implies a higher upside than there really is. Caps pick will probably be 25-32.

Yes Flames fans, if all you get is a 25 point point bottom six pest out of a #4 overall pick it is indeed a flop pick.

That being said, it's a decent trade for both teams.

still can't get over the fact of what washington dealt for Mantha. On paper, that is a marginal improvement over Vrana at best and they traded high picks for it. It's not Forsberg for Erat bad....but if either of those picks end up being quality.... even if it's for some cap space.

DeAngelo would have been a fool to accept a termination now, makes zero sense financially.
