You don't expect your parents to do that to you, but why was he handing over control of his money to them in the first place? Maybe Johnson isn't good with money issues, plenty of people can relate, but damn man. Was there was no way for him to even know his bank account was running dry?

It's not that simple.

His parents (without Jack's knowledge, supposedly) took out loans against his assets (contracts, his future earnings) They supposedly forged Jack's signature on a lot of these loans as well, some Jack signed himself without reading (dumb, really dumb)

It's a sad story all around. Although Jack might have known his parents were doing this, and didn't realize how much he would owe in the end.

Moral of the story is, If you come into some money, TRUST NO ONE, not even your parents with it.

Educate yourself about finances, take an entry level accounting class.

Stamkos's procedure, which can have 4 to 6 month rehab, will be performed by knee specialist Dr. Robert LaPrade. Precise recovery time TBD.

That's a shame, he's losing almost the whole year again. And they were struggling to begin with in a tough conference. Just 2 pts out of a playoff spot.

That one is a little more simple.

Always possible.

Yeah, if nothing else, money buys you time. You can sit on that money for a bit, and like you said, take a class, or just read what other people did, or something. I was going to say, he has an agent to get advice from, but he didn't have an agent when he first signed with the Kings, right?

A lot of wrong turns taken by everyone involved.

Part of the stuff on the NHL's proposal to the NHLPA to extend the current CBA by 3 years

Kings road trips are brutal now, imagine adding Asia and Europe to Reg season...

In addition to Olympics-for-CBA extension NHL proposed to NHLPA, NHL also offered more ambitious int'l hockey calendar to grow game abroad.

Beyond OLY/World Cup, it's believed to include return of NHL reg season games to EUR/Asia; possible new format (Ryder cup style?) event...

...as well as increased cooperation/interaction with EUR leagues and Learn to Play/grassroots initiatives abroad, especially Asia.

The stuff that happened to Jack has actually happened to lots of athletes unfortunately. When you're not running around with a solid financial knowledge due to lack of education (not in JJ's case), and you trust an outside party to do their accredited job, thrown in with lack of time to do this, lots of them get defrauded, like a surprising amount. It's why...I forgot who. Sheldon Kennedy, maybe? Is starting his own venture to advise NHlers--get a trusted face in there, etc.

Obviously the nuances are different in Jack's case--with his parents and forgeries and stuff--but I think some would be shocked at just how many athletes are stolen from, flat out.

I get the idea, but never been too big of a fan of the games scheduled outside NA. Not that those games have ever really hurt anything. Sometimes leagues will throw out European expansion though, and it's just...what? 4 time zones and 2 countries have caused enough problems in the NHL. Is adding an ocean necessary?

I think they'd have an insanely hard time with Euro expansion with existing leagues there, and I don't think grassroots stuff would be as necessary.

The Asia stuff I find fascinating and important, though.

I've only been to Europe once and it was the Kings playing in London that spurred it. Would of gone to the Sweden/Germany games as well but my personal situation wasn't as good (free loading GF that there was no way I was going to pay for her to go to) so I passed.

No problem with games on other continents to start the season. If it is your team playing in them, it is a great excuse to get off your ass and commit to international travel if you need the extra push like I usually do.

plus with the new mandate that each teams gets a week off at somepoint in the year it could be before that team's week. More options than doing it at the start of the year.

I've always liked Hanzal's game. There's trade rumors for him right now. Who or what would you guys give up to get Hanzal?

Nothing. We've got our 3C in Dowd. Can't afford to cough up anymore assets for a guy who will draw a lot from others. We're not enough of a contender to be going all in like that in past years imo. But I agree that he's almost ideal in general .

Maybe, maybe not. Nobody has to tell anybody this, but playoffs are all about depth. And if the Kings had.....

Kopitar
Carter
Hanzal
Dowd

.....as their centers going into the playoffs, that's a formidable lineup, indeed.

Or

Kopitar
Dowd (Carter as wing)
Hanzal
Shore

you can never have enough centers

Nothing. Hopefully DL won't make the mistake a 3rd time, trading away a young player to get a rental player. There are teams that are in a position to give up the young NHL forward (preferably a center) the Coyotes are seeking in return, esp teams that a very close to getting to the SCF.
Hanzel isn't signed yet because of what he was asking for, he's about to turn 30. He wants to stay in AZ, it's just not for what they were offering over the summer. Maybe both sides will move on that.
There is no fit for him here, nor the reason to waste more assets for a player they can't keep. Why trade a young skilled player for one who is past his prime years and has diminishing skills unless you're overloaded with top young forwards and a top contender who needs a center.
Even tho the Habs come to mind, the reason that wasn't done yet is vbecause of the asking price from AZ.

Jarret Stoll at Edm-LA game wants to give it another month and if no NHL offer he'll do player develop work with Kings

With Dwight King still playing in the top 6. Need a top 6 wing more than a center at this point.

It would be great to have Stolly come back home for that job. I read that he served a teaching role with younger players when he was with the Rangers, focusing on face-offs.
