Love that Torts is back in the league...he is entertaining.
Cannot believe that Columbus brought him on knowing that it would cost them a 2nd round pick. That pick is looking like it will be top 35. So higher than the first pick LA will have this year!
Couldn't they have went with Payne?

Guess Keenan couldn't get his passport in order...now that he's out of a job

Read somewhere in the last week or so that Guy Boucher would like to get back in the NHL.

And NHL coaches tend to have a short lifespan. Carlyle will land somewhere...soon enough.
 
Giving-up a 2nd to hire Torts is a fireable offence IMO, and I think draft picks are greatly overvalued
 
hah remember when their fans thought they had 3 very good goaltenders? good times. Atleast the GM was smart enough not to deal assets at last years deadline for rentals.

On the 2nd-round pick going to Van for Torts, the Jackets have until June 1 to decide if it's 2016, 2017 or 2018 pick
 
Can't do worse than 0-7 in the first 7 games. So they're already behind the 8 ball. Probably unlikely to play well enough, soon enough, to get back in the race. Unless they win like 6 or 7 in a row.

If Torts doesn't work out, they can let him go at the end of the season. The pick, even if it's 2 years from now, seems like a bit much. If you figure you'll be good 2 years from now though, it's not crazy. Even if all he does is make all 5 guys block every shot, maybe they'll have better luck than with a goalie that has no confidence in himself.

It's a last ditch effort to save a season that's going downhill quickly. A season they had expectations for. A weird season so far for the Blue Jackets though. Everything seemed to be going well until the last few minutes of that opening game against the Rangers. They gave up like 5 goals on 2 shots in 24 seconds. Spiraling down the drain since.

I watched that game and you nailed it. They played great , leading 2-1 with just over 2 min. left and gave up 3 goals. It's like it sucked the will and life out of them. They haven't been the same since.
Also, Richards has a bad habit of not having the team ready in Oct, they start out slow every year. Torts, if nothing else, will install more discipliine there, not unlke HItch did when he came over.
0-7 rough hill to climb but that's why they had to make the change now.
They've been looking to trade for a top D since training camp but the price was too high. Now I think they'll give Torts a bit of time to right the ship but they still need defensive help. They do have a deep farm system with some top end prospects and forwards they could offer. And I don't buy into the Larsson for Atkinson rumor. Devils aren't trading him.

it's a 3 year deal..so they will have to pay $$ to let him go after this year

I think they are making a mistake. Sure Ortio had a nice stretch last season but he has had his AHL difficulties.

I would have gone with Ramo and Hiller with Ortio developing more in the AHL but that's just me.

Ortio needs waivers and would be claimed though. If he didn't I am sure he would be starting in stockton
I think the mistake was bringing back Ramo in the first place.

That's funny. I don't know why, but it didn't even cross my mind that it would be anything more than the rest of this season, and then see how it goes.
