A few things about the Canes:
  • Their roster is not that young but have a good mix of veterans and some young players
  • They are well under the salary cap: nearly~$12 million (!!!!!!)
  • The team stuck with Rod B as a coach since 2018-2019; takes time to win
  • Made some key trades and great acquisitions (Ehlers, Hall, Gostisbehere, Bussi)
  • Seems like this team is an actually TEAM with a great culture, excellent coach, supportive, everyone buys into a system as we saw against Vegas
  • Taylor Hall had an awesome playoffs with 19 points in 19 games including the game winner in last night's game. Would LOVE to have him but...
Give me some hope for the Oilers....this is a copy cat league so lots to learn here....

Kinda felt like the Canes had “team of destiny” written on them since early in the playoffs. The missed breakaways and Eichel hitting the crossbar yesterday really cemented it.
This plus Vegas looked gassed and seem to be scrambling. No composure in the team. I would not blame Marner or Hart for Vegas losing this series. And Eichel played like a**. I like Torts but Rod schooled him big time...

Torts: "that is the dumbest question" if asked if he will switch goalies. "We will be back for game 7. I will leave my clothes here." I guess he's getting his clothes now. I like confidence but he was a little arrogant...

Saw this old story on line. Tragic story of a good Saskatoon boy. Didn’t know him but a good buddy got in a dustup with him. Hard nose, honest d-man.

Ultimately decades later was discovered in a Austrian ski hill crevice believed to had been hit by a snowgroomer & buried to hide it. RIP Duncan.

Remember before Mcdavid was made captain when Tmac did a powerplay drill in practice and he asked guys to volunteer for the PK side? The real in-game PK was slumping big-time during that time but Mcdavid was one of the only guys to go to the PK side for the drill. While Hall and his little clique with Eberle and company stayed on the PP side like entitled farts. Taking the easy way out.

The PP side won of course, but Hall showed no belief in and support for what was really needed to succeed (a PK tried to improve). That incident solidified my opinion of Hall and it still hasn't changed with this Cup run.

Fair enough. This is on coaching though and he had to mature to play for a team like the Canes and the Bruins who are al about team play.

Context. He's signed in Carolina for the next two years at $3.17m-- an extension he signed in Carolina after being a freebie in a third party retention trade. That doesn't happen if his career doesn't play out the way it did and completely come off the rails.

Never heard this ever, because its a made up story.

In anycase Taylor Hall was young then, and perhaps somewhat immature. So even if...

Its no basis in which to judge a player and the judgement was clearly erroneous, underlined, and if need mention he followed it up with an MVP season.

but wow, lets defer to some nonsense narrative about a drill. Lets ask Eakins how good Taylor Hall did at survival camp and gathering fire wood and water. lol

That wasnt the story at all. MacLellan asked the players to pick which side would win a drill they were doing. The 2nd PP unit or PK. This after the oilers couldnt score on thr PP. McDavid picked the PK side. Hall picked the PP. Could have also been seen as confidence in his group while McDavid did not.

Oilers reboot with focus on scoring goals Oilers reboot with focus on scoring goals

The murder pod I listen to did an episode on him.

It seems less "foul play" are more negligence.

So many playoff finals runs were like what Vegas just did. Catching lightning in a bottle. Super hot goaltending, crazy high shooting %. Just everything seems to go right, until the luck runs out in the finals, then it all goes horribly wrong.

Before game 4, Vegas had an all situations PDO of 1.045. Montreal was 2nd with 1.024. Vegas was #1 in shooting% by almost a whole percentage point. And 3rd in sav% behind Ottawa and Philly.

Vegas still finished with the best 1.033 PDO, but that drop was thankfully enough to end their run.

Was just comical watching Vegas up until game 4 of this series. They were like EA Sports cheap mode. Just any time they needed a goal, give them 1 chance and they score every time. Goalie wearing puck magnet pads. Just so lame to watch.

He totally butchered the story to fit his narrative. Here is what actually happened:

I detected a Hall hater in that post instantly. Thus calling it narrative. People find really whacked reasons to still be dissing Taylor Hall. A day after a great moment for the guy, his family, and lifting the ultimate prize and being the most prolific player on his SC winning club.

I'll salute him. Others will do whatever they do.

It's not BS simply because you've never heard it and don't want to believe it. It happened and I still remember it til this day.

----
Sure Taylor Hall was young, but he's not a leader unless it was his own little clique.

Its made up narrative because of whatever whacked opinion you have on Taylor Hall. Next look up Confirmation Bias.

Tell us you didn't try to write a narrative about Taylor Hall painting him a certain way based on one lol practice. Maybe you could cite Eakins next. We could all use the laugh.

Yeah, I'll accept Brindy or Staals version of Hall over yours thanks. haha

Thanks for linking the article. That is the one. I mixed up the PP/PK side and who picked what.

THIS for sure. Like I said, Hall was great in these playoffs and a HUGE reason they won. He also was a PPG as well and is no small feat in the playoffs (better stats than his regular season). Every time Hall was in the ice in the Finals he was giving 110%. I would sign him back to the Oilers in a heartbeat.

Almost all his pts were EV as well and look at his linemates. That shouldn't have been the Canes topline, it wasn't supposed to be, but the grabbed it and ran away with it. No other Canes line was close. Aho himself deferred and handed cup to Hall. A huge message there and a class action. Aho singling what a huge part of the success Hall was. THAT has meaning imo.

You say I paint Hall a certain way but he is a certain way. You keep giving excuses for Hall. And then you praise him so much for what is regarded as one of the weakest MVP seasons in recent times where he cherry-picked at the blue line for so many of his points.

I just find it hilarious that you dismiss my first post because you didn't like I was ripping Hall and this is very typical of posts from you.

Thanks for the link. Ultimately it appears that there was a criminal action involved that caused catastrophic injuries and then hid his body instead of getting him medical attention.

The MacPherson family agonized for decades over this tragic disappearance on their son. Spent considerable money and time searching for answers. The Austrian government were not helpful. I highly recommend this book: Cold a Long Time: An Alpine Mystery

no one here would know what a ‘typical post’ from you looks like because most of us have never seen or heard of you before you came on here the day after Hall won the Cup to try and trash him. For some reason …

Keep holding on tight to your (faulty, bias) memories of Hall, but I suspect there are few posters here who have much interest in reading them. Maybe you can find a more receptive audience elsewhere?

I don't even have to respond. More Hall hating in this post. Even dissing his MVP season. lol.

Your post was dismissed because you couldn’t even remember it correctly lmao.

Get out of here with this nonsense.
