Will be interesting to see how the deck chairs get filled up. Babs is going to need a modern era player 'translator' so I can imagine Smith in Edmonton. Curious to see how everything unfolds... and I assume Babcock is 'approved' to coach again.
I’m do as well to all you said. I just wonder who Smith hitches his wagon to.

More drama.

My assumption is with the Babcock hiring subject to approval being in works for awhile, that the details and prepared nature of him likely means at minimum soft conversations have taken place with prospective assistant coaches. Second assumption is the Oil given their panic point are likely to outspend on all means necessary including support help.

We live in interesting times ...

One of the biggest things regarding the Canes win, is what occurs to most winners. You need to have a mostly healthy lineup, and other than Anderson, they were very fortunate in that regard. It's arguable that the Oilers may have won during their 2 trips to the final if they didn't either have guys out (Hyman), or McDavid, Ekholm and Drai hobbled by injury.

The only way to do it is how they did it too. You have to limit the amount of games played to ensure you’re healthy. The only way to do that is to win almost every game.

The Oilers last playoff sweep was 1990.

Yeah should’ve said since not better than. You got me on the typo.

But yeah I guess they’re an incredibly weak team according to the “experts” here.
they're not "weak" but they were incredibly lucky to play weaker teams as the playoffs went along
I think the Sens were their stiffest test before the Final based on analytics and eye-test...yes, they swept them but the games were close

Flyers were the weakest team by far to get to the 2nd round
Habs got a couple of lucky Game 7 wins they didn't deserve then got exposed in the Conference Final
even got lucky with Vegas losing Karlsson

luck played a huge factor IMO...but you need it to win a Cup

by contrast...have the Oilers ever played a "Cinderella" team in their playoff runs? they were constantly going up against division winners (Vegas, Vancouver, Dallas, Colorado, Calgary even)

When did Rosie O'Donnell become the GM of the Vegs Golden Knights?

Or did Jack Nicholson just really let himself go. Love the ^ eyebrows

Also the video is basically just this

Simplistic approach, but yes, of course the less games played, the less chance of injuries. But injuries can happen even when a team sweeps another team, but sustains injuries early on, crippling it's chances. Good fortune plays a large part. Not many key guys missed the Oilers cup runs during the glory years, some which were extended,

Oilers probably always went up against division winners because they haven't won a division. ;)

At least it's not Vegas. All I got. f*** Vegas...

Happy for Rod Brind'Amour who personified heart and character as a player and coaches that way too.

That said, I think Carolina is the weakest champion maybe in the modern era. A longstanding contending team the combination finally unlocked with Florida finally (REALLY) on LTIR; goaltending so called voodoo clicks in; good health; and a heaping helping of soft playoff competition aided and abetted by upsets. Rolling Ottawa, overachievers Philadelphia and Montreal. Credit for beating Cinderella Vegas Golden Showers who's pumpkin showed up finally in the Final.

Textbook things have to go right to win a Cup. But at end of day they did get it done.

We would have beat this Canes team in 5 last year and in 4 in '24. Agree that they're shit in the context of Championship teams. Their '06 team wasn't that great either IMO. Some teams get the fortune of good timing, and we do not.

Also agree - f*** Vegas. "Everyone is just jealous of us because we're so good at our job." Yes, we are jealous, but it isn't because of anything you're doing. My grandmother could GM that team to a competitive level.
