One of the early plans for the Arena District included just that. I think it was in the area to the west of the Arch/park.

there was rumors of it going in where the Casino didn't...Adam Jardy (dispatch beat writer) did a column that Precourt was looking at other land, most notably land down by COSI.

If they could move down to Arena Dist somewhere it would seriously help attendance...

Ryan O'Rielly agrees to 2 yr deal. $ 5.8 and $6.2.

There's your comparable. I'd say that RyJo's camp is probably pitching a range of 5.5 to as high as 6.5. The Jackets are probably wanting more like 4.5. I've thought he's probably going to get more like 5M a year. 2 years, 10 million is not bad for a bridge and if he keeps improving, sets him up to be in the 8 year, 56-60M on his next deal.

I agree about the ROR contract being a comparable contract. I'm sure that management would prefer to keep it around 4.5MM a year, but I've got to think that it would end up being a little north of that to keep him happy. My guess is 2 years at 11 - year 1 at 5 MM and year 2 at 6 MM...pretty similar to the Bobrovsky "show me" bridge deal which has worked out fine imo.

love this one:

Florida Panthers

On the night of the Panthers’ 1995–96 home opener, a rat scurried across the team’s locker room. [Scott] Mellanby reacted by “one-timing†the rat against the wall, killing it.

Jim Lorentz would just like to clarify that this happened before the game, so his record remains intact. Also, I like how this specifies that Mellanby one-timed the rat. Less-skilled rodent slayers would have stopped and stickhandled the rat before getting the shot off.

Brassard just signed 5 years for 25million

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

It seems like every big signing I'm telling people to relax "C'mon guys, Its the new NHL, thats what #2C's get paid", etc... But Brassard is a mediocre #2C with poor intangibles. What a joke of a deal.

With each passing signing the Dubinsky deal is better and better.

Some Ranger fans are using the Dubi contract to feel good about the Brass contract

I'll admit, I thought Brassard had more guts in the playoffs than I expected and perhaps he's improved more than I'm giving him credit for, but there is no way I'd given him 5 million and it's for 5 years.

I'd rather have walked away from him and gotten nothing. That first Gaborik trade doesn't feel so awful in retrospect. Dorsett was moved for a low pick, Moore would be our 9th best defensemen and now Brassard will get paid 7 million dollars next year.

I don't know how NY will react when I can't reach the 40 point mark again. He still can't win a faceoff.

Brass centered arguably the Rangers best line last year. He is their 2nd line center, no good alternatives in their system and even slightly above average 2C's in UFA cost a heck or a lot more than 5 mill. I think his deal is okay for all concerned.

I personally think that area would be perfect for the possible Stone Brewing facility Columbus is trying to lure.

Mind blowing we're paying <1M more for Dubinsky instead of Brassard... lol. Derrick is now the Bozak of New York.

He centered the most effective line because they rarely drew the top match up. He is their 2nd line center by default. With increased expectations, I think he will be exposed. If I see another gear from him, I will be surprised.

In my opinion, this should have been a 1-2 year deal and prove that he is worth it. Sure you risk losing him as a UFA, but you get negotiating dibs and never seem to have a problem drawing FAs. It's the same exactly mistake we made with him when we gave him his last inflated contract for 20 good games.

I'm not complaining though. Let the other Metro teams sign these contracts.

Agree with everything you're saying so far, Slash ... that contract will prove to be brutal, just like the one he signed here a few years ago. Let's face it - part of the success of the Gaborik trade was just getting rid of the money Brassard was eating up.

Now he will be making even more.

If a division rival wants to go down the familiar road of counting on Derick Brassard as their second line center for the next 5 years, who am I to complain?

Yea, the Rangers are pretty much stuck between a rock and a hard place. They need Brass. Amazing, though, that they actually paid him more then he was asking for!

The Rangers are still a team with legitimate needs, and little cap space to fill them. They do have an outstanding goalie they can ride night in, and night out, but I don't see them getting another easy road to the cup finals like they got last season. Hell, they could be on the outside looking in come play-off time. There were a few teams, including the CBJ, that got a little to a lot better that could bump the Rags out of the top 8 spots.

Should make for an interesting season.
