Nichushkin and Seguin with 4 points each tonight against Philly. After Nichushkin scored 4th goal the Dallas announcer said: "Mason is now feeling like he's back in Columbus".
I thought that was low to take such a crap shot at another franchise.

It won't feel so bad when we're a contender in a couple of years, while they remain a struggling franchise that squeaks into the playoffs from time to time.

Watching the Pit/Bos game. Thornton thows Orpik to the ice and punches him a couple times while he is down on the ice. Orpik taken off on stretcher. Ugly. Hope Orpik is ok. A real punk move by Thornton.

It is my opinion that this should be one of those landmark suspensions. 50+ games ... the guy clearly declined the challenge to fight; you can NOT jump on him and punch him in the face while he's laying on the ice.

Bush league move.

I think what Neal has done is as much dirty as Thornton's antics. He saw that Marchand was down on the ice and intentionally hit him to the head with his leg.

Both moves were pretty reprehensible. I think Thornton's is a little worse though because he came in with a slew foot and then continued to punch Marchand while he was down on the ice a few times.

At least Orpik could see Thornton coming. Neal hit Marchand from behind... to the head... with his fit... That as dirty as... dirt. That was blindsided headshot and could cause serious damage as well. They both should be suspended. But Neal is a "kind of star" and his crap didn't cause an injury. But in my opinion if Wiz got 8 games, Neal should get at least 18.

BTW. If someone is missing John Moore. Watch the 1st and (especially) 3rd Devils' goals tonight. Johnny was at his best (or worst). Too bad New Jersey couldn't finish the Rags in regulation.

The Neal hit was the knee as he skated by, right? Or did something else happen that I'm not aware of? It sounds like you're describing something else.

That's right. Maybe I just couldn't find the right words. I mean Marchand couldn't see Neal skating by and Neal hit Marchant with his knee to his head. Maybe in English it's not what called a headshot.

No, you're right. I've just been watching the football game more than the craziness between Boston and Pittsburgh. Wanted to make sure I didn't miss some other crazy BS that's happening in that game.

Seen a lot of hockey in my life...Thornton on Orpik is one of the dirtiest things I've ever seen.

That may also be the nail in the coffin for "players can and should police themselves".

It should at least give the league pause. It will be interesting to see of the NHLPA takes up for Thornton, seeing as the player he sent to the hospital via a non-hockey play is also a member.

The level of player on player violence is ridiculous. Questionable hits or even bad hits, as part of the play, are one thing. But raising elbows and skate-by shoulders to the head and stick whacking are over the top. And now you've got a guy kneeing another player after the play and, I don't know what Thornton did, assault?

I agree it is a bit out of hand. Seems like it is much worse this year.

Thornton should go for at least 20 imo.

I am telling you, the NHL had better get this garbage under control. The NFL is currently being targeted for it's violent nature, and once these forces are done raking them over the coals they will be looking for a new target. The NHL would fit that bill. It WILL happen, so the sooner they get in front of this the better.

I think that with the recent lawsuit by former players that the league will start taking this stuff much more seriously. We all know the Shanaban crap has been borderline ridiculous, with suspensions and fines that seem to make no sense, and don't seem to be fairly handed out. They need to come up with a coherent discipline framework that they can point to so that they can fight off any outside challenges to the state of the game.

As to the games last night. NJ and NY both get points, bad. The Mason we know shows up and the Flyers lose, good. Good they lost, I mean, not that Mase had a bad game.

My father-in-law is a union member at a decent-sized shop. Some years ago, there was someone who was...let's just say that he fit every negative stereotype of a union member that you can imagine. He showed up drunk one too many times, and was slated for termination. The union took up for him, and apparently the rest of the crew took the rep aside to know what the hell they were thinking. The standard response was "he pays his dues". The response to that was "So do we, and he makes work miserable and dangerous every day that he shows up. Why don't we count?"

I think it can be termed assault. I've said for years that attempting to leg whip someone should be a 10-game suspension for a first offense (20 games with injury), precisely because it carries an inherently high risk of a serious injury. To then pummel an unconscious player, which isn't even allowed in UFC, is obscene.

sounds like we'll be playing a Pens team w/o Orpik, Neal, and Malkin tomorrow...

Sounds like a perfect opportunity for a Vezina backup performance against our squad while our guys like lost kittens out on the ice!
