I am not huge on shooters to begin with and the post apocalyptic genre runs its course on me quickly. My buddies were huge into Resident Evil and Nazi Zombies and after a while it becomes very redundant shooting down waves of mindless killers. After like 6 months I was begging to go back to games like the Zelda franchise -yep. I'm a nerd

I can make an exception for Halo and Gears of War because I am the kind of guy who will play a shooter for a plot. I am liking Fallout 4 enough as a plot to keep engaging in it despite how frustrated I'm getting
The Metro games started as novels (same as The Witcher). It's more like BioShock or Prey (2017).

The Steam Winter sale is going on now, and the deep discounts page has some good ones.

Firewatch supposedly has a good story, although it's more of a walking sim.

Titanfall 2 is a great game that didn't sell that well. Not as strong as a story, but it has that COD4 era DNA to it. The single player campaign is well worth the time, IMO. The development studio went on to make Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

You know those annoying ads for games where you shoot wave after wave of enemies charging at you on a bridge and your guns are supposed to get bigger as it goes on? But the person always fails in the ad? And you realize that's not even the actual game?

That's what I'm expecting of their half minute trailer
I'll be honest, Skyrim might be my favorite game of all time, at least top 3. But I don't have much hope for Bethesda at this point. And if Elder Scrolls 6 only releases on Xbox and PC it'll take me years to buy it anyway.

FEAR 4 is announced to release in 2027. Might be a reason to buy a gaming PC for me, loved the series.

2025 looks interesting for games. Death Stranding 2, MGS Delta, GTA6, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Outer Worlds 2, etc.

If you like Skyrim/Elder Scrolls, Kingdom Come: Deliverance might be worth looking at.

If you like Fallout, The Outer Worlds has a lot of old-school Fallout DNA from a combination of having a few of the original developers, as well as the larger influence of the series. The Metro 2033 series I mentioned would be another.

Metro feels a bit like a more grounded version of Fallout.

Squid Game 2 is really, really, really letting me down man. I love that there's a story to stop the conspiracy because that is exactly what would happen. Police would be all over this. But that is and is not what this is. It's 70% detective looking for his brother that no one believes and STILL won't tell anyone his brother is running the damn thing. You otherwise have a predictable, bulletproof protagonist of season 1 who would be long since dead in his revenge mission.

If you're watching this to meet players, cheer them on and see if they survive the game.... I have REALLY bad news for you. I don't see myself finishing this. Cops busting bad guys is the most overplayed content in the world. People turning on each other in games of life and death is rarely told. And unfortunately the ratio of content is making damn sure it stays that way

We'll get moved to 19/3 by a kind mod, but Squid Game has the same core issues as any Battle Royale type show. The Hunger Games had it, too. Catching Fire was pretty good, from what I can remember, but it was also essentially a rehash of the first movie.

Once the 'turn' happens, and the initial driving force is over, are the characters and the rest of the world really worth caring about? Westworld suffered from that issue. You could tell through the first season what it was leading to, but they had to actually execute on all that promise.

I'm going to make an odd reference, but the Dangonronpa series maybe has the right idea. It's pretty much an all new cast put into the same situation, and each game explores different aspects of the most interesting parts of the core concept, rather than giving lots of answers.

These types of projects have got to consider a new POV character, at least. Try to conceal some information from the viewer.

I liked Squid Game, perhaps mostly because I was still stuck in my house and hated my life, but I can't say it's even crossed my mind to watch season 2. It's kinda like 13 Reasons Why or some other similar series to me. They made the point they wanted to make, I don't see a point in a second season other than making money.

The current discourse around Elon Musk on Twitter is incredibly amusing to follow. A lot people are shocked to find out that the richest man on Earth does not always stand for the working class Americans after all.

I just like how Vivek used Cory Matthews from Boy Meets World as an example of an archetypical 'cool' character.

But maybe he was on to something. Being the fastest runner in like 1st grade puts you on the top tier of cool/popular.

You're gonna get me banned if I open up any kind of discourse about him. I'll have the FBI at my door tomorrow morning for how many times I'd slander that goodball
