Armchair GM Thread

O'Reilly is going to be a key player for us in terms of making the playoffs in 2026, so I don't think people should be putting his name into any trade scenarios? :dunno:

I mean, ok, maybe things won't go exactly According To Plan next year, who knows right? So maybe at the 2026 TDL O'Reilly will go onto the trade market. But there is just no way Trotz is trading him before then.

:help:

All that talk about getting out of the mushy middle when hired just for trotz to hope to return to the mushy middle this year. Ugh

If the Rossi rumor of value being a late 1st is accurate, are you making that deal, if the same rumor is also accurate on his 7x7 asking price? That 7x7 ask feels like a negotiating stance and I'd guess the real number is lower. The late 1st doesn't bother me a bit to be honest. The asking price is high, but the hope would be you have a good idea on wiggle room before you make the deal and feel confident you can sign him. What say you?

For a late first I probably do it. What are the odds you find a guy even that good with one of those picks? I'm not sure on the 7 x 7, especially since he is a RFA with several years left to go. I think I might give him 7 if he agreed to a bridge deal, but I'd be a bit warry about it on 7 years.

Pretty much my exact thoughts. If that is the only cost, aside from contract, I have a hard time passing on it.

I think it’s pretty safe to say that rumor could not have been accurate. Rossi was a much higher pick who has basically panned out. He is worth much much more than a late 1st… especially one in this year’s draft.

Knowing the current state of the team/coaching, I dont give a late 1st for a young forward. It will be a complete waste
I know this is voicing frustration, and many of us aren't far off...but realistically if this is where we are we may as well just press fast forward until the team gets moved or something. If we aren't trying to get better then what are we doing?

That's not an indictment against you, as I have noticed many of the comments lately from a growing portion of our fans are just drenched in apathy.

Recognizing the destructive force that is Burnette, fully enabled by Trotz….why would we want to hinder the development of actual talent by crushing them with incompetence? Better to wait for the firing we know has to come first

For a later 1st, I'd definitely give Rossi a shot. Odds of getting a decent NHL player with a later 1st is a crap shoot and we've not done great with drafting forwards. But knowing we would then pay him 6-7 million and give him over to Bruno to shuffle around the lineup fills me with sadness
