Speculation: Armchair GM 2024-25 Season, Craig Conroy's Can Do Calgary Flames

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
If you’re asking me what possible motivation the Bruins would have to move Lohrei, I’m only going by Di Marco’s (dailyfaceoff.com) tweet from the other day which suggested there aren’t too many players on the roster that Sweeney wouldn’t make available for the right price.

Lohrei will be one of those "not too many"... pretty sure than group is Pasta, McAvoy, Lohrei, Poitras and Swayman

That's the thing, what's the cost on an age 24-27 top 4 dman? Too much.

We need to funnel those assets into age 24-27 top 6C instead. Those guys demand insane premiums and we need more than 1.

It's a conceptual idea, not a fixation on a specific player (but this player in question ticks more boxes than a complete random other player). I'm not saying it must be Severson, I'm saying someone like Severson is a value proposition that works with our situation/needs and dcorps. This allows us to focus on other serious holes on our roster.

I'd rather have something like an overpaid Severson and decent d corps (with Conroy at the helm, I'm not too worried about total mess of a cap structure) and acquiring an elite top 6 solution vs just a decent top 6 solution.

A d corps with young guys like Bahl/Parekh/Brewski/Solo/Kuznetsov vs inexpensive options for passable vets to round it out is OK IMO. It's not detrimental not to add another of Jiricek/Parekh's calibre to that future core. We have decent stuff to work with. Adding an extra elite guy to the dcorps is bonus, not necessity.

The elite level talent on the forward corps, especially with how weak the centre backbone projects to be is where there is most concern IMO.
Yeah that’s fair, I don’t mind the idea of going for a cheaper #3/4 RD this offseason and would be open to Severson as long as it’s a 1-2 year deal (or 3 at most ideally). I’d also be ok to overpay in dollars for the short term to keep the term low. I just might rather go for a less proven, less valuable, younger RD option that could improve and still be a decent #4/5 vet option in three years like a Jokiharju or Perbix or Fabbro. I’m just worried Severson would cost too much for that role and is slightly on the older side already.

No.

I think we chase a mentor, I think Connie makes calls to Quick, Allen and Andersen on July 1.
Quick would be something else. No spring chicken anymore obviously, but would still be good for 20 some odd games. Would be well worth the milli or whatever it would cost to let Wolfy pick his brain for a season.

That's where my mind is, I think the objective in the backup search will be a support system for Wolf, and that isn't Cooley IMO. Cooley had a great start to the year, but has fallen off recently and this is his first year as a starter in the AHL. He's allowed at least 3 goals in 8 of his last 10 starts and has allowed 4 goals on fewer than 20 shots twice in the last 5.... his SV% over the last 10 is .882

And when it comes to the AHL next year, I suspect it will be Cooley and maybe Sergeev if he signs to leave the NCAA. I wouldn't even give Ignatjew a qualifying offer at this point in time if I'm being honest. And I don't see Zarubin or Yegorov coming to NA next year... and Chechelev is a write off at this point IMO.

Definitely meant Sergeyev, not sure why I said Chechelev lol at any rate, they’ll still have Cooley for another season, so not terrible at all if Cooley/Sergeyev is what it ends up being.

His name is going to cause so much confusion... apparently Arsenii Sergeev and Arseni Sergeyev are both right.... does that make Arseni Sergeev and Arsenii Sergeyev right too?

In my view Lohrei (even though I don't want him here) would be one of the few they would keep.

Yeah, mentor wise, Quick is a good option. I think he'd be a great guy to have around Wolf and Cooley. Even if his performance isn't there, his mindset is good and both guys probably watch Quick growing up.

I’m pretty sure Wolfy is on the record as saying he basically idolized Quick growing up.

Sorry, I meant I probably recall reading that they grew up watching quick. Basically Adding that quick is a good option per your idolizing comment as well.

Can we please add but also substract?

* Bean
* Miromanov
* Rooney
* Farabee
* Vladdy

All horrendous players (will give a pass to Vlad as he has redeemed himself to a level).

Get these out and try to get something in return.

Rory can take Farabee's spot.

The Sharks moved Vitek Vanacek tp FLA today for Patrick Giles, a 25-year-old prospect that makes Walker Duehr look like Jarome Iginla.

This is why trading Vladar would be relatively useless, at most we're getting a late pick or an AHL depth body

Im willing to give Farabee until halfway through next season before writing him off.

He could legit have 5 or 6 goals pretty easily right now.

I haven't had an issue with his play so far, he (and his linemates) are just having a tough time converting at the moment.

Lowest on ice shooting % on the team at 5v5 since his arrival (3%).
