Nadal aces: And just like that, Nadal vaulted to a tie (the field -- those not listed -- have the smallest odds) atop the Kentucky Derby Futures Pool #2 as it closed this weekend despite currently without any Ky. Derby points. Baffert has a powerful runner who needs some seasoning. This should be an entertaining few weeks leading up to the Ky Derby.
Four Ky Derby preps this weekend: There are two Ky. Derby preps under the same name -- Risen Star -- at Fair Grounds on Saturday. Each has a 50-20-10-5 to the top four finishers. The El Camino Real at Golden Gate awards the top four finishers on a 10-4-2-1 scale. On Monday, a holiday in the U.S., the Southwest at Oaklawn is another Derby prep and has a 10-4-2-1 point system.
