There was a time when that was the team with Jeremy Roenick and Keith Tkachuk, selling out playoffs games with a crazy whiteout atmosphere.

It was supposed to be different. Phoenix could have been another Dallas or Nashville. The way it all played out was a tragedy for the league and the sport.

Unlike the Stars, the Coyotes arrived in a 4 year old arena vs the old Reunion Arena. Thus, Stars and Mavs were ok to share a new arena. Footprint was also a BB specific arena.

Most people I've talked to about the Coyotes believed the owner was the issue. I mean, look at the other sports - they've been doing just fine. Arizona has an appetite for sports, it's just been so piss poorly managed for far too long.

Something to consider — the elementary school aged kids who fell in love with hockey that first season in Phoenix are now in their mid-30s, with their own elementary aged kids.

Think about what those fans have been through during their entire lives as hockey fans, and what they’re losing when they put their kids to bed tonight.

People laugh at Coyotes fans but it reminds me of the Expos towards the end. People weren't going to the games anymore, not because we suddenly hated baseball but when you keep hearing rumors about the team leaving it's like... what's the point? Especially towards the end when they clearly didn't give a shit about competing at all and were just interested in saving money.

It's been a while but I remember in 2011, during the playoffs, they had a lot of people going to the games and the atmosphere was amazing. Unfortunately, it went downhill from there.

I think the market had potential, I understand why Bettman tried his hardest to make it work but the management was just dogshit.

I saw a lot of ex-Nordiques fans laughing at the Coyotes fans for losing their team and man... what a pathetic thing to do.

Fans deserved better, just never got on stable ground ownership wise. Hockey can work in the desert, Bill Foley proved that with the Vegas Golden Knights just last year. As much as it sucks for the AZ hockey fans I am glad the circus is over. The Utah project sounds promising for the NHL.

I have a soft spot for the Yotes, especially as that is who we played in our very first home game. Honestly I do know how you go to a charge sitaution like that and want to win, the same with the Oilers tonight especially as the game was meaningless for them, but I don't know how you go in to such a game as the opposition and want to win.

People seem to remember the bad times this franchise had, but they had some pretty good brand names playing for the team in the 90s, and there seemed to a fun vibe at their games in that quirky rink in Phoenix.

It basically all went to crap when they decided glendale was the place to go.

Location matters even in the most hard-core markets

Because they're competitive athletes. They didn't get to where they are by letting opposing teams and their fans feel good.
