Instead of making a new thread, what would Arizona want for Keller?
??? Brady? Why would they trade Keller?

What about something centred around Brannstrom for Hayton? Both struggling in current market and could use change of scenery, both franchises dealing from a point of prospect strengths to correct depth issues. Win win win?
Hayton struggling? New coach praises him, minor injury had him start the season in Tucson and now it looks like he has an opportunity to stay with Galchenyuk and Schmaltz injured.

Hayton isn’t struggling at all. He had a fantastic camp and was only sent down because he got hurt. He’s back up now and is the best center on the team by a mile.
I thought you wanted Hayton in Tucson all year where he could develop and dominate? Now all of a sudden after four games he isn't struggling and is the best center on the team? I think you wanted Soderstrom in Tuscon as well. To be honest both have played fair, not great, and have not embarrassed themselves and I see no need for either to go back to Tucson unless their play goes south.

1. Which center has been better than Hayton?

2. Would you classify his performance in the NHL this season as “struggling”?

3. Do you even watch the games?

I feel like
White and a 3rd/C+ prospect vs Schmaltz would be a solid deal.
More than that would be too much.

To Arizona: Erik Brannstrom + Colin White + 2nd round pick

To Ottawa: Nick Schmaltz

Aside from Soderstrom, Arizona seems to not have any bluechip defensive prospects. Schmaltz is replaced by White. Ottawa needs a top 6 forward. Seems like a good fit?
Drop Brannstrom and were good. You can even throw in another cap body as long as the dollars aren't too high if you want. Schmaltz is a fine middle 6 forward but not a line driver.

You could probably make that 2nd a 3rd too.

I'd rather buyout White than take Schmaltz for free and I suspect Sens management agrees.

White's buyout costs an average of 675k over 6yrs. Its basically nothing.

If they want to do that, sure. I feel like it would be a waste imo. Schamltz is a capable player as well, could fit a need. Sens aren't near the cap salary should not be an issue at this point.

He is capable but doesn't fit a need. Norris is our number 2 C(who might have number 1 ability), Pinto looks like our other number 2 C. Both are tracking to be better or similar players to Schmaltz so he gives us nothing we don't already have and what we want is a clear cut number 1 C which Schmaltz isn't. So it's cap space that solves nothing.

Sens have a lot of big contracts to sign. 5.25m on Schmaltz is a waste in that context.

I'll put it this way - White, at 4.65m, would have needed to at least match Schmaltz's career past 3-yr average if he wanted any hope on not being bought out this offseason.

Pretty much this. Schmaltz would quickly become a very highly-paid 3rd liner for us.

From an Ottawa POV, zero interest in Schmaltz at his cap hit for 4 more years. I'd just buy White out this offseason for 6 years of 875k cap hit and move on.

With Schmaltz's contract and production he is not worth White and Brannstrom.
Coyotes would do Schmaltz for Brannstrom straight up. Need to get out of the Schmaltz contract.

At this point not sure Ottawa would do White for Schmatlz straight up because of that contract.
it will be tough to move that contract unless the Coyotes take a contract back. NMC starts in 23-24 when he’s paid $24m+ for the final 3 years of the deal. Oof! Another parting shot from John Chayka.

I wonder if because Ottawa still has the Phaneuf and Ryan buy-outs on the books, they may be buy-out averse for a few more seasons. If they’re committed to not buying out middling contracts, it may make some sense to see if they can at least get more value out of Schmaltz than out of White. In a pure hockey trade. A typical “change-of-scenery” deal.

I'd say the 35+ million owed over the next 5 years would be an instant NO from the Sens - or at least their owner.

I don't think the upgrade from White to Schmaltz is worth Brannstrom and a 2nd. Take Brannstrom out of it and the trade might make more sense.

While the contract devalues White, when healthy he is a pretty solid 3rd line center.
It’s the other. You take the 2nd out and leave Brannstrom in. Arizona has enough future picks. They need younger ready players now.

White has scored at 38 point pace per 82 games over his last 109 games

Schmaltz has scored at a 52 point pace per 82 games over his last 122 games

Between the two of them, I think Schmaltz is more likely to produce closer to his cap hit for the remainder of his contract
Honest question, why use differing sample sizes for both players?
