For Montreal it's not about shedding salary. It's about not being locked into using LTIR for four seasons. LTIR is not without cost--there are negative downsides to using LTIR.
And what are they? Cause there aren't ANY for a team who'll be rebuilding those 4 years anyways. Actually, keeping those guys on LTIR assures us that we finish bottom 10 those 4 years and THEN go on to sign quality UFA to play with our young core

I don't think Montreal plans on rebuilding for four years. They don't have the patience. Give it a year, two at most and they'll be splashing to full cap with UFA signings.

I'm fairly certain the Montreal media (I can't remember who) reported that the contract was "fully insured". They didn't elaborate on what that meant, but they did say that because it was covered that the Webber contract would be an asset to certain teams trying to make the cap floor. What that's worth IDK...

Even if the real dollars were partially covered, at 3M and providing a cap hit at 7,850,000 it could certainly help specific teams.

And the Yotes will still be more than happy tot take weber at that point too. Cause they are cheap AF. No need to send assets.

In 2 years, Weber will have 1 year left on a LTIR deal with a salary of 1M$... Let that sink in. W/ a cap number of 7.8M$, Yotes will jump on this

D'Amico is a blogger and Engels is a beat reporter who covers the Habs.

I don't particularly like or trust Engels but OP is tripling down on a faulty premise.

Weber's contract is very likely insured - and even if it wasn't, it's still a teensy bit but nevertheless positive value for the acquiring team if they need to hit the cap floor during a long rebuild. I doubt any team wants to be a budget team for four more years but it's very like to be the dump that is Arizona franchise. I'm sorry Yotes fans, I hope your situation is resolved soon.

Contract is insured. The insurer however claims Weber can still play. That has been resolved now. Don’t ask how i know…. ;)

Hans won’t take back a bad contract in return for Weber. Habs also won’t get much of a return. It will be a d-level prospect-a contract the yotes want to shed.

To Coyotes fans:

If taking an LTIR contract is doing you a favour, Vancouver has one for you. We will even pay you a low pick or another player for the privilege.

There is always another LTIR contract out there.
