I can’t reconcile your last sentence. Electric is has fewer moving parts (far fewer) than ICE and are overall, quite simple.
I'm 2 years and 60,000 miles into my cheap Bolt and ice replaced cabin filter twice and rotated tires twice a year. There is almost zero maintenance.

Man I would not trust BMW at all. Cutting edge engineering but iffy quality as a result. I mean the fit and finish will be top knotch but no way I'd own a BMW out of it's bumper to bumper warranty. Sucks cause I would love an M4 but just don't ever see myself ponying up for it given the questionable quality. Totally different segment but BMW kind of reminds me of Polaris (or rather the other way around), kick ass engineering and constantly pushing the tech envelope but questionable quality for that very reason.
I have had 3 BMWs, 2 335Is and now a 340i, I have had over 100k miles on all of them with zero issues, just brakes, tires, battery. They have been great cars for me, and I beat on my 170ci straight 6, 500hp, and it hasn't flown apart (yet). It handles great, like its on rails and has the best brakes, M sport package. I have driven almost everything, I use to instruct at the race track too, I think the BMW is really a good all around car from cost, performance, niceness, etc....

The only cars in my experience that have come close to BMW in terms of pure driver feel are Mazdas.

What I was trying to say is that other automakers are finding it hard to replicate Tesla's success, both in units sold and profits.

First time I drove a Miata it put a smile on my face. Best handling car I've ever experienced.

I had the choice between buying a top of the line 3 or a mid-range truck last time I went car shopping... I went with the 3 and I could not be happier. It's just a great daily driver, and it probably saved me hundreds of bucks when the gas prices exploded a couple of years ago. Some buddies of mine raced IMSA for Mazdaspeed and they had been pushing me to try it and am I ever glad they did.

Full disclosure - I've never driven a BMW street car, only a couple of their low-level sports cars. So my trust for their brand only extends to the limits of their motorsports programs. Although I will say that the reputation of Beemer drivers is not one I want much part of...
No need to worry about Beemer drivers these days, the title of biggest little dick pricks on the road these days goes to the lifted diesel crowd.

To be fair, cobra427, you are a car guy which makes me confident you'll have decent luck with most any vehicle because you will always be on top of your maintenance and what not.

My friend had a 335i and it was great until it wasn't, ended up costing him thousands of thousands of dollars (because BMW) trying to get the cooling system in order and finally he sold it and bought an Acura. I felt bad for him because until that experience he was a huge BMW evangelist. Really though that's just an anecdote, I don't doubt many people have great experiences with them. I've mentioned having a couple of Dodges and the hivemind says mine are going to explode by merely looking at them but I've loved both and not had any major issues (knocks on wood). Granted I tend to be on top of maintenance too, well at least compared to the average Joe which is admittedly a pretty low bar.

Goddamn, tell me about it. Every day on my commute to and from work, these assholes are screaming around in traffic, cutting people off without a signal, crossing three lanes of highway to cut someone off on the off-ramp, and just being shitbags in general.

Although I had to laugh today, because I passed one on the way to work and he took it personally, racing me off the next light, crowding me in my lane, and shooting past me with smoke pouring out of his exhausts... only to slow down meekly like a little bitch when we passed a motorcycle cop at a speed trap while I continued on my merry way without touching my cruise control. Nothing like Y'All Qaeda hiding their fragile egos behind a big truck that likely costs them a couple hundred bucks a week to drive...

I have some clown almost every night running up and down 107th Ave in his Challenger like it’s his own personal drag strip.

My next door neighbor with whom I commuted to Glendale from Chandler to games drove a normal full-size pickup; whenever one of his brethren did something stupid during that 40-mile haul, as one inevitably did, I always pointed it out to him: "see? pick-up truck. *Again*!" Chances of dumb move go up with certain bumper stickers and/or types of AZ license plates.

For my part, I've been an early adopter for tech exactly once, and I got burned by it pretty badly, so I'm waiting until enough players come into the market and start refining what is there through competition before I invest in a fully electric vehicle.

I don't trust Tesla as a brand - not just because of Musk, but because of the quality control issues I've seen with my family members' Teslas, the murky ethics of their business practices, and the bespoke nature of their tech. And man, I am wholeheartedly not a fan of Tesla's styling.

But the brands I do trust - BMW, Volkswagen, and to a much lesser extent Hyundai and Kia - are either too expensive or too early in their product development to be any better of an option than Tesla. The less said about Ford's "Mustang," the better. And Lucid and Rivian need a wider portfolio with lower price points before they can compete.

I think there's still some stuff that has to happen too - a common fast-charging tech network that can be deployed en masse nationwide, for one - before I feel truly comfortable sinking my money into an EV.
The old school brands trying to catch up Tesla is like turning a battleship in the bathtub. Its always tougher for the incumbents to change in any industry.

Hynundai and Kia? Man, they have major quality issues, the big one are the shitty motors. Remind me a Mopar years past with nice styling but crap quality. Scared to think what corners they cut with their new EV's

Ah, they’ll get there, it’s perception more than anything at this point.

All EVs perform well due to the nature of the powertrain. It's not unique to Tesla. Lucid coming along and making a much better car with less money only cemented that.
Love Lucid. But the current models are more expensive than the S.

The most elegant engine I’ve ever seen is the BMW straight 6.

As to the electric power train being simple, I beg to differ. The materials science that goes into a Tesla or Lucid motor is unreal. The battery is also very complicated.

Oppenheimer 70mm 10/10 no notes. I think Harkins added additional showings at AZ mills until the 16th, I recommend the experience.
1 of only 30 theaters in the entire world capable of showing it! I've got my tickets and am looking forward to it!
