Say this for our scouts - passing on Kalyiev was incredibly gutsy. Five years from now, they will either be hailed as geniuses, or pilloried for overthinking a pick and passing on an obvious choice. To have a 51 goal scorer staring you in the face at the top of the second round and pass on him - wow. You have to ask yourself, though, why 11 teams at the bottom of round one all passed on him also, and why a room full of experienced hockey people, all of whom want to win and are mindful of their reputations, collectively decided that this guy was Filatov 2.0.
