See, if Stevie had traded back and picked Seider, I would probably not like it as much.

The fact they stepped up and picked him makes me giddy lol.

yeah just gives a much stronger impression that they really like him and aren't settling after trading down

I feel like we’ve been begging this team to pick a D early in the draft and the one time we did everyone wants to go by BPA.

I don’t know anything about this kid, but I know we need a high end Dman and this is one way of getting one. It wasn’t looking like we were gonna get one via free agency. I’m cool with taking the risk.

I woulda went with your boy over our boy based on what I do know.

I don’t get it buddy......

They have a similar "home run" defender potential. Big, good movement, and could develop into more.

We have our favorites, but obviously they saw something in this German kid.

So many analysts had said there was little difference between 3-12, so it comes down to personal preference.....Yzerman's preference.

We need a lot more than one prospect.

The problem with going BPA is they already have a good pipeline of young Fs. Too many prospects means you leave players hanging on the vine and ruin them a la Nyquist/Tatar/etc. They have Hronek, Cholowski, and McIsaac and it's not sure yet that any of them will really make the NHL.

What forward prospects do we have that are currently at risk of being blocked? Veleno is the only forward prospect that we have that we can say has definitive top 6 upside in our pool. Those 3 dman all have top 4 upside, if we were drafting for need I think forward is what we would have gone for.

Yeah, unless someone else here was specifically seeking German hockey streams, I've gotta think that the professional scouts paid to do this have seen and know more than we do.

Let's see how it plays out before calling for heads.

Seider does have a lot of potential, he's very smart, he has an amazing size, can skate, has an offensive flare, and shoots right to boot. I think I'm ok with this pick after thinking about it for a bit. Did we miss out on the likes of Zegras or Cozens, probably, but defense wins championships.

Seider has a pretty high ceiling. I wish we could have dropped back and done it, but I don't fault them if they think he is a top pairing defender and I think they must have to pull the trigger on him there.

Also the way the draft is playing out might have impacted this. @Bench is right that it seems to have really changed the whole way we thought the draft would flow. Interesting if centers start dropping to our next round pick.

Guys, look at this run on defenders... This is why they didn't trade back.

Yea it looks like Yzerman did not want to risk it. Seider was slotted to go anywhere from 10-15, but some scouts even had him in the late top-10.
