Are we in Canada paranoid about 2026 or should we not be worried?

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Unless he's having a stupidly good season (i.e. 100+ pt pace and Hart candidate) he's not making the team. You can't make Team Canada as an undersized player just by having a lethal shot. He'll be on Team Canada soon enough, but not in 2026.

Nobody is discounting on how good Bedard will be. But he's a young kid who's pretty one-dimensional at the moment.
I have no idea why so many posters are obsessed with Bedard making Team Canada. It can't be because they think it will help Canada win because he would not improve the team in 2026.

If you’ve actually watched Bedard this season, you’d know that he’s turned Donato into a 40+pt guy in 50-something games. I’ll admit that he’s not great defensively, but offensively, there’s very few players on Team Canada (other than McDavid, MacKinnon, Crosby and MAYBE Marner) that see the ice the way Bedard does.

He’s not just “an undersized player that has a lethal shot.” To say he’s one-dimensional is just wrong though. His offensive toolbox is up there with the best.

Bedards not even ppg or even on pace for 30 goals. There's 10+ guys easily ahead of him. He's not even sniffing a Canada roster spot. For him to take a roster spot, he'd have to be on pace for at least 50+ goals next year. There's no reason to take him otherwise, he's not a big body, he's not some amazing play maker, he doesn't PK, he's not amazing defensively.

At this point he's not even ahead of Celebrini. Nothing against Bedard, but he does nothing for Canada and should just focus on getting better.

Well said.

Like so many players, Dylan Cozens was not a good fit in Buffalo but he has 2 points in 2 games with Ottawa. Nice to see.

Too big and too talented not to be something better than he currently is.
A third point from an unassisted goal, tonight, against Philly.

Why does Buffalo destroy the career of everyone NOT named Tage?

Fantilli with another point.

No, Canada..a country that has utterly dominated best vs best tournaments for over a half a century now winning 11 of the 15 best vs best tournaments ever to take place (including the last 4 straight) while no other country has won more than 1 should not be paranoid/worried for a hockey tournament.

Thread.

Mason McTavish with a goal. He's playing really well and could reach 25.

Dylan Guenther with his 24th, could reach 30 - if he hadn't gotten hurt, he <fill in the blank>.

Alex Newhook NEVER gets any love but I find him highly underrated.

Suspect he'll start next year with 40 goals in 40 games
Just to piss you off

That's Bedard for you.

Not to go down that rabbit hole, but a lot of those tournaments are subjective best v bests. Only the Olympics (with NHL participation) have universally been considered a perpetual best vs best competition.

Anyone who believes US Americans are the most arrogant people on this planet need to talk to any Canadian on their view of only they can win hockey tournaments.

I can NOT believe it...

I woke up on Thursday, after having a dream about how to create UNLIMITTED CLEAN ENERGY using Nuclear Fission from ONLY a teaspoon of salt water and I posted the formula here on HF for the world to see / use. The next thing you know...

All of the posts during those 48 hours are gone forever and I cannot remember the formula.

What are the odds?

Find me one person who follows hockey who believes only Canada can win hockey tournaments.
For the record. I'm not convinced we're better or worse than the US. Hockey's a funny sport, one bad bounce and you lose. One good bounce and you win.

Proof....game 7 Edmonton vs Florida last year and this years 4 Nations.

2) E = MC 🔨
3) The Origin of the Covid virus was THIS guy...

Tournaments aren’t about better or worse. In one-off situations, any of the top five or six teams could win. Good teams get goalied all the time. If Canada makes intelligent roster choices they have every opportunity to win.
