Are we in Canada paranoid about 2026 or should we not be worried?

Sam Montembeault was supposed to be our saviour but he gets lit up a LOT. Having said that, Montreal does NOT exactly play a defensive brand of hockey.

It's funny... When MSL first joined Montreal, the Montreal posters were thrilled saying he would let the team just play offensive hockey. Under the category of, "be careful what you wish for", the fans are now upset because the team does NOT play D and they keep losing. Too funny.

From a Canada perspective, the bigger concern is whatever has McDavid out. He never takes time off and is a warrior. Stu has not looked good though... but Ingrim is playing very well. Talbot is looking solid but it is a bad start for Canuck goalies now that I look at the stats. nonetheless, you can put 2 or 3 Stanley Cup winning goalies in front of that D and F's and be fine.
I'm just hoping it's not a high ankle sprain because those things can linger on for ages.

Wish I held your optimism on the goalie thing but I have to take into account that there are a couple other teams that have almost as good or in the case of Defense maybe even better material then Canada right now......................what suck ass goalie do we have at our disposal that is going to stop them when the heat is on?

Canada is in a lot of trouble coming up, you can feel it.

Correction........they don't play any defense at all.

It will be interesting to see who Canada takes. Dostal isn't doing anything that week.lol. In fact, either of any of the Russian goalies.lmao

Few notes, have watched portions of 4 games today

-Johnston and Harley continue to impress, even if for Johnston the numbers aren’t a reflection. Reinhart/Bennett/Verhaeghe all play dogged hockey and could conceivably be a line if the coaching staff wanted chemistry

-Byfield doesn’t look himself, he looks soft and disengaged compared to last year. Frustrating because all the skill and physical attributes are there. It’s too soon for Clarke and I think the concerns about Bédard are overblown, Los Angeles had 3 guys on him in basically every transition and below the dot situation. Nearly won the game in overtime with a play that would have been one of the goals of the year.

-As much as I hate to admit it, because I hate the risk a player with that lack of discipline has, Tom Wilson looks really good against Montréal and today against Columbus. Him, Dubois and McMichael play very well together. McMichael is an interesting player going forward, he plays like a London-developed player

-it’s hard to imagine team captained by Sidney Crosby losing; he’s such a mentality monster. An ageless wonder that is the perfect hockey player. Suzuki is fine but his stat line flatters him, I find he lacks engagement across 60 mins

I'm more inclined to call in a few markers owed to us from U.S.A hockey

Reinhart has certainly won me over that's for sure.

As for Bedard, 3 guys on him or not........great players, cut above players, get it done.

^^ GREAT post. ^^

I agree with all of it - especially Bedard. He does get swarmed every time he touches the puck.

Great players like McDavid, Crosby, Matthews, MacKinnon and Kane had Drai, Nuge, Prime Hall, Prime Eberle, Landeskog, Duchene, Rantanen, Toews, Sharp, Hossa, Nichuskin, Marner, Nylander, Kadri, Makar, Tavares, Malkin, Staal, Letang.

Bedard has Foligno, Teravainen, and Seth Jones…

Your point is duly noted.

Now get on the f***ing score sheet Connor. We're not running a "if only he had better linemates" school here. He was lauded as one of the next big things, with that comes expected production.

I don't make the rules.

It's going to be tough keeping Mark Scheifele off Team Canada.

Bedard with a 3 point night and, all of a sudden, he's almost PPG.

Nice to see Mason MacTavish with his first goal. We don't want him to be the next Trevor Zegras.

Hyman scoring is pretty key for Oilers and Canada... he was riding some insane bad luck and unsustainable averages.. he was due for a regression to a 30 to 40 goal guy. Feel like that's coming. I'll obviously take 50 again but he was due!

Start adding Laf to the negative category. They’ve just switched the virus onto his line. Didn’t get any points yesterday. I’m worried this will become a slump.
It’s only one game after several consecutive games of registering a point. I wouldn’t be too worried

Additionally, if he’s so reliant on Vincent Trochek to produce, he probably shouldn’t be on the team in the first place. But until further notice I still have him on
I removed him. I replaced him with Dylan Strome who is 27, on fire, can take faceoffs and help set up Scheifele...

Hagel - McDavid*- Point
Strome*- MacKinnon - Scheifele
Marchand - Crosby* - Reinhart
Bennett*- Stone - Marner

Jared McCann (L) / LAF (L) / Kyrou (R) / Bedard (R) / Thomas (R)

I think your mock is too reactionary, someone like Strome does not process the game well enough to play at that level. Jared McCann is a perimeter player who is not good enough to play in the top 6 and can’t play a defensive role. Scheifele has more of a legitimate claim, but I think he’s too déficient without the puck to be trusted in a non top 6 role
