Not only are they going in the right direction, but I have full confidence in the front office. We still don't know how the rebuild will pan out, but as of right now, HuGo are laying down a blueprint that might become a standard rebuilding teams might try to emulate in the future.

Not if they keep going with that D core. I absolutely love Hutson but he doesnt have the acumen to be a no 1 dman. He's more of a no 2 / PP wizard.

Someone like Shea Weber who can munch big minutes. Slavin. Forsling. Seider. Sanderson. Morrissey.

Maybe we can hope Reinbacher become that but I doubt it.

Hutson is a top 10 D in the NHL as a 21yo rookie

Yes because the core is more solidified than it was a year ago.

At the beginning of the season, we knew what we had with Cole and Nick, but Guhle, Hutson, Demidov, and Slaf's baselines were completely unknown.

We now know the baseline for Cole, Nick, Guhle, Hutson, and Slaf. Demidov's baseline is still unknown, but scouts and experts across the league are almost unanimous that it's high. Thus, I think we have a very clear core that I believe can compete for a number of years if surrounded properly, especially since I think that all these players outside Nick and Cole have another gear to offer.

What's also exciting is that within the next 1-2 years, we may also be adding Reinbacher and Fowler to core as well. If they are what we expect, then the habs are set for quite sometime.

At the beginning of 2024, it was hard to determine what the habs expendable assets were because some of the key players mentioned above were still relatively unknown and thus we needed the players mentioned below.

After this year, I do think that we have a clear list of tradeable players, picks, and prospects in Dach, Newhook, Matheson, Mailloux, Roy, Kapanen, multiple 1sts and seconds. I also think if the right deal comes along that Xhekaj, Struble, and Beck would easily be available. I also think that if Hage was a make or break piece for a Larkin type of player, he'd be moved in a heartbeat.

All that to say is that I think the habs have the core and the assets to take the next step in the rebuild. And that means they are continuing to head in the right direction.

The only question remaining with Hutson is whether he is going to become a top 10 player in the NHL or not

I love him but I highly doubt a team can with the Stanley Cup playing a 5'9' dman 25 minutes a night. If I'm wrong I'll gladly eat crow, the Avalanche won with Makar playing a big role -- but he is, yes, bigger, better defensively, better supporting cast. There is no Devon Toews playing along Hutson neither.

So IMO the most important change is to bring Bowen Byram, Noah Dobson or a guy like them who can take the most of the minutes and let Hutson do his things.

I of course agree with the benefit a defensive rock would provide paired with him, but Hutson is simply a dominant player

He is too smart to be limited by size, guys like him overcome. He just went PPG against a top seeded team as a rookie while playing top minutes. I get being hesitant because we’ve been disappointed so many times, but the kid simply has got “it”.

Not exact same thing but BOS made it to Cup final with Krug playing 22+ mins a game in the playoffs

My comment is by no means a disavowal of Hutson. I love him. But Quinn Hughes havent led his team to the SCF, Adam Fox have not either. To get far in the playoff, you need a rock solid two-way defenceman and we do not have that. Mayyybe Reinbacher, but he's way too uncertain.

Only 2 teams make it to the finals per year. Quinn Hughes and Adam fox are easily good enough to lead teams d cores there.

Sure, but the opposite it's generally more true. Hedman, Weber, Ekholm, Forsling, Heiskanen, Pietrangelo. We just dont have that and I am confident it's a necessary piece to achieve success.

We have a young talented team and those guys are leading the way. What's not to love?

Hughes has to help them out, his job won't be easy.

Anderson, Dvorak, Gallagher, Armia, what happens here?

We need some more nasty on the roster, the Caps series highlighted that fact.

The future looks good and playoffs should be a regularity moving forward.

Question, how many games of Reinbacher have you watched?

maybe Hutson will prove you wrong or maybe reinbacher will become Pietrangelo and we will never know. Either is fine with me 😂

Yes, but now comes the hardest part.
I still consider us in rebuild mode (towards the end obviously). Hughes should not rush or overpay just because we lost against the Caps. I am a firm believer he should keep his picks and keep stockpiling on prospects.
Also must not make the mistake of resigning any of the bottom 6 guys.

You realize he just finished his rookie season, right?
