Proposal: are we dumb enough to try Willander + 1st for Larkin?

American captain who has played his entire life in his home state, is tired of losing, then says "yea I'll waive to go play for Vancouver"

There is no incentive for us to get players like him, unless he is an UFA, where we dont have to spend any asset to acquire him. Especially not for first round and willander, thats crazy.

Our 2011 team should definitely do something like first round + willander for Larkin though, but we are not there yet.

Thats delusional.
We it presupposes that two things happen.
1. Willander can, within the next year, respectably play in the top 4
2. That we an actually get something approaching similar value in a Hughes trade.
And, yeah... the odds of one, let alone two, of these things happening may be somewhat delusional.
But, if the stars aligned... I'd be down to clown.

I mean that is likely what we will do.

This is a rebuild-free zone.

Watching Heiskanen dominate that Stars-Jets clinching game tonight, reinforces the notion for me that the Canucks really need to see what they have with Wilander.

Heiskanen is such a beautiful and effortless skater, and looks he hasn't skipped a beat despite being out with a knee injury since January.

From all reports, Wilander is also an elite-level skater. It's just so vital now to have those kind of skaters on the back end. With so little room out there, a lot of offense is being driven by d-men with the anticipation to jump into the play.

That's how the Stars scored to OT winner tonight......Harley coming off the bench and joining the play late. And when Morrissey went down earlier in the game for the Jets, it really compromised their back end.

A couple of months ago the Stars and Oilers were in a funk. They'd lost nine games in a row. And the last thing you thought is that either squad would do much in the playoffs.

But it's not what you look like during an interminable regular season. It's getting hot at the right time.

In what way is offering that dumb? Like are the Canucks dumb enough to offer that because obviously Detroit would have no interest in that package?

Also, there's no way that Yzerman accepts that package given. They are in pretty much the same spot as the Canucks and a bunch of other teams. Trading away their best offensive player, Captain, and local hero for a 1st and Willander is terrible PR on top of not helping them win.
But Stevie Y is just the kind of guy to get butthurt and ship a guy out for saying the wrong things.

Frankly I'd rather see Larkin here a hundred times over the likes of Marner, Ehlers or anybody else on the UFA list.

And the Canucks probably have the assets to make it happen.....with their first rounder; one of other Wilander or Lekkerimaki (probably Wilander) and another 'B' level prospect.

But just can't see any chance Larkin would waive his NTC to come to Vancouver.
