Proposal: are we dumb enough to try Willander + 1st for Larkin?

There is nothing we can do if he doesnt want to stay here, he wants to win a cup in the near future. But this is getting out of topic. The main point is we shouldn't be making any trades that involved us giving up prospect or draft picks.

Two strategies here… We either give up on Hughes and trade him, or we make moves, try to win, and retain him. I’m all in on option 2. If we have to re-build again, it’s gonna suck anyways, and most of the prospects we have now won’t help move it along that much quicker.

Team has made it clear they will not rebuild. Might add well try for the long shot success. If the screw up its going to be a legendary implosion and era of pain. Either way they willetch their names in history.

I would 100% gamble on that trade and there's no way Detroit would ever consider it.

If Pettersson even comes remotely back to form, you have a great 1-2 C punch and a very good top 4 on D. That's a very strong backbone for a team.

I doubt detroit trades their local boy captain that easily. Also I doubt he's willing to waive to the west coast. We might have a better chance at someone like Anthony Cirelli, who apparently has no trade protection.

At this stage of his career, Larkin wants to 'win', pure and simple. And he'd have to waive his NTC to go anywhere.

So if he and his agent were convinced that the Canucks were a legit Cup contender, then maybe he waives to come here.

But there's not enough magic mushrooms on the planet for Larkin and his agent to hallucinate about that possibility in Vancouver.

He’s a legitimate number one center, great defensively, and put some good numbers.

But he has a no trade clause, he’s not coming here
He’s a point per game centre who turns 29 in July, and regressed a bit last year, for a 20 year old Lekk with 30 goal potential, 20 year old Willander with top pairing potential, and 15 overall that can fetch a player like Hronek. Detroit takes that trade in a heartbeat and flips or keeps those assets for a major upgrade in their top 6. Keep Lekk and Willander, then flip the #1 pick and another decent player for a Larkin replacement. Detroit gets a lot younger and more talented.

Yeah, Lekk too seems like too much plus we probably have to send some salary… Maybe a guy like Garly?
Will, 1st, Garly?

If Detroit is moving him it's gonna be more expensive then that. I doubt the cost would be less then Willander, Lekk and a 1st and even that might not do it and more than likely could be matched or beaten by one of the other teams out there. Even soo if that was the price I would look long and hard at doing so. Him and Petey would be a very legit 1A and 1B.

Our window is now (or at least that's what management is gonna think). Adding Larkin plus another one or 2 top 6 wingers and we could probably be considered at minimum a solid playoff team and optimistically look to get back to where we were last year.........The benefit of this as well is potentially placating Hughes which if we can do so is well worth the price of the trade.

Is Larkin not fairly comparable to Horvat? Maybe slightly more offensive version of Bo? 1st + Willander seems a bit overpay considering what we got for a younger Bo 2 seasons ago (17th OA, Raty, + cap dump). I think Willander is consistently ranked a top 20 prospect in the NHL, and gets undervalued here a bit.

IKR, all i remember is the roster NYI could have 20 years ago if mibury hasnt done any trading. Luongo in net, Bertuzzi as their top line player.

Didn't we learn from our lesson as well? trading our first round for JT miller, how many rounds of playoffs did he end up playing for us? how about OEL? how many? what did we end up giving up? and we are still not learning? Seriously?

our 2011 team should have traded for a JT miller type of player, thats when we should have made big trades.

Larkin and Yzerman traded some serious barbs this off-season.

Basically Larkin complained that management didn't do enough at the TDL to give the Wings the chance to make the playoffs.

Obviously stung by the criticism, Yzerman shot back that the Wings didn't make the playoffs because 'our best players weren't good enough". Ouch!

Reports are they've patched things up. But if Larkin went to them with a 'trade demand' it wouldn't shock me either.

So it's not beyond the realm of possibility that he's on the move this off-season. But I just can't see Vancouver being on the list of teams he'd want to go to.

I'd make this deal without hesitating.

Wings don't even consider it.

They have zero need for Willander with Seider at 1RD and (they believe) ASP a shoe in for 2RD. We offer Willander, they reject it and ask for EP in a Larkin+ deal and then the conversation would end.

There will be no rebuild.

That is classic video game logic by you.

He wouldn't waive to come here. San Jose is closer to contending than Vancouver is.

He's apparently very good friends with Hughes........so would not be soo sure on that. Our team with another Top C on it is in pretty good shape if we add a winger or 2.........

Things can change in a hurry. Remember how earlier this year people were talking about how trash our D was now people are claiming we have one of the best D's in the league?
