Poor Emberson. The talk of the thread.. the talk of Radio. All the Talk.

Meanwhile

RNH 2 points and looks like a steaming pile of shit on the ice.
Hyman 0 points Just making a complete and utter mess of any chance he gets.
Arvidson 0 points When's the last time he had a scoring chance?
Bouchard 1 point Woof.. woof woof. His game looks exactly like it did last year at this time.
Brown 1 point, E for effort at least
Henrique 1 point, last game was more an impact on the loss then anything Emberson has done this year.
McDavid 6 points, he's so good this is a slump for him haha. But if I'm being honest his shot has been dog shit this year. His accuracy is crap.
Draisitl 5 points and needed McDavid for most of them.

Power play -> Putrid

I'm not saying the defense isn't a problem.. but it's not the biggest problem... not by a long shot.

This team doesn't have that extra 10% to finish plays from those players above. Until then Emberson and that right d spot is not going to win us any hockey games.
Watching other teams play... particularly the Leafs... they are playing simple and getting pucks on net, and they are scoring. We are being too fancy because anytime we are near the net, the goal gets called back. They are in thier own heads and need to get out of it. 5 on 5 they are playing very well.

If only they had 3 particular support players, they would be undefeated to start the year.

The Oilers are among the only teams I can ever remember that are so addicted to perimeter play that they force the puck there even when there's a rare look from Main Street. How many times this year have we had a guy coming down the middle of the ice with a shooting lane only to decide to pass it back door or to a shooter on the wall? Drives me f***ing crazy.

Adding to the problem, they are so pass addicted as a group that there is a dust off period every time they get the puck. A lot of times they get a puck in a shooting area, then sit on it..sit on it...sit on it...shot isn't there anymore, so fire one into the goalie's logo, miss the net, or try the passing lane that's already covered off anyways. Bouchard has been the poster boy of this move this season. There is no urgency to get the puck on net from any player on this roster not named Skinner.

well, its obvious the perimeter play has been good to the team, we've had really good seasons the last 5 years, and a lot of personal success, so its no wonder they default to it. What makes everything worse is Connor McDavid can't score off his shot anymore, its been a year and 6 games and his shot has completely disappeared and he can't beat groups of players anymore or any D one on one.

The team needs to try something new by now. Book is out on them, square up in the D zone, block shooting lanes and counter attack, same with the PP. The problem is our elite guys aren't carrying the water. Check out Nylander and Kucherov, they are bringing it this year.

Imagine the level of skill on this team combined with the work ethic and grit of the late 90's, early 2000's Oilers teams. We watched them combine all that during the last playoff run so we know this team has it in them.

Work ethic, drive and most importantly, resilient confidence.

Despite the massive talent discrepancies, you think those groups went into a single Game 1 against the Starts or Avalanche not thinking "we're gonna win this game, out them on their heels, and make them work for it?"

Now? I don't know if they think anything going into a series other than "hope it starts well."

EDM deserved better against the Stars but no matter how bad Skinner was in the goals he let in, you can't win if you can't score. Offense has been awful so far. Shut out twice in 6 games and basically dead last in all offensive categories. Very strange. Either way EDM needs to string together a few wins in a row here because 2-3 a few games ago could now turn into 2-5 tonight. And we all know the more you fall behind the harder it is to catch up.

Nuge back on the 1st line after looking like a slug all year. Nurse plays some of the best hockey he's played in years with Stecher, so let's break them up and put Nurse on the right side.

Good times.

I don't mind some perimeter play, but take your damn chances when you see an opening. The perimeter is nowhere near the problem that the players' passive attitude is. Roll it to the next guy, shoot it along the wall, let someone else make a play, oh let the point shoot it and miss the net.

Nurse on the right side? He has struggles on the left side FFS.
Let’s play Nurse on his offside with our worst defender. Or we are going to do that at least let us move Kulak up ffs.

Talks constantly about how people need to stop talking about these players.
Unprompted, brings up those players.

I heard some talk in the off season that Nurse Kulak might be the 2nd pair until the TDL and let Dermott, Stetcher, Emberson fight it out for that bottom pairing.
