Are the Winnipeg Jets a one line team?

I think the jets will be eliminated in the first round again.

They have a one line team. If you shutdown the schifele-connor-vilardi line, you can win the game (series).

Ehlers can be shutdown also.

The jets also don't have additional scoring coming from the 6 bottom lines that can pick up the slack if the SCV line fails to score.
Sounds like someone needs some peanut butter for their copious amounts of jelly.

Don’t worry caps fan, we will see you soon and remind you what a shallow team we are. lol!

Enjoy your one good year of PLD!

I’m not convinced the Jets will lose in the first round. They’ll very likely win the Central Division and get to face one of the wild card teams. The western conference wild card race is a bunch of tortoises attempting to crawl across the finish line.

On the other hand, assuming they win in the first round, that means most likely facing one of Colorado or Dallas in the second round… and that’ll be a very tough matchup for them.
The Jets have handled Dallas pretty well at home this year, 4-1 in each game. The U.S. backup chants rattled Oettinger in the first game. Jets can skate with the Stars. They've beat them with and without Heiskanen. I think Dallas still has an unsettled blueline. Probably comes in as Lindell-Heiskanen, Harley-Lybushkin, Bischel-Ceci, but Dumba coming in on the right side instead of Bischel might give the Jets an edge, especially in top 4. That said Dallas has shown they can play playoff hockey, for the Jets they have to get over the hump they have had post Byfuglien.

Rantanen has 2 points in 6 games vs. Jets. Jets have shut him down relatively well, especially Dylan Samberg.

Colorado is the team the Jets might not be able to match speed wise in the playoffs. Especially if their 3rd line which was gunning in their record start, starts shooting blanks when it matters, as they did last year in the playoffs.

But there is no way Scott Arniel, who was there last year, lets the Jets look past the 1st round. He's made a big difference in the way the team plays this year, making them harder to play against. I think St. Louis or Utah would give the Jets the toughest matchup if they finish #1. Because both teams can grind too, and have veteran defenses, that can play playoff style hockey.

Jets might lack the secondary scoring that other teams have but no team has the depth of quality defensively up front. All their lines outscore and out-chance opponents. The Jets take advantage of match-ups vs. other teams' bottom 6 and often pummel them. It's not an accident that they are 9th (6th among solid playoff teams) in 5v5 scoring per 60 (ahead of the Avs, Oilers, Leafs) and easily #1 in goals against per 60. They are now 6th in xGF% at 5v5 (5th among playoff teams). So they aren't just Hellebuyck and a bunch of plugs. They have a seriously good and deep lineup that play a very good system.

Jets lines at 5v5 this year:

1. Connor-Scheifele-Vilardi

+14 goals, 53% xGF

2. Niederreiter-Lowry-Appleton

+10 goals, 53% xGF

3. Ehlers-Namestnikov-Perfetti

+11 goals, 55% xGF

4. Tanev-Barron-Iafallo/Kupari

+2 goals, 55% xGF

The Jets have the greatest single line in NHL history. That line has been responsible for 98 points in the standings so far this season and will likely be higher at the end if they can keep up their complete and total domination of every other team.

That has to be some NHL record.

They have a league average line 2 and one of the best line 3's in the league. Put your money where your mouth is and bet on the jets losing round 1 to Calgary/St Louis/Vancouver/Utah

A one-line team can handle whichever of the candidates secures the WC2 playoff spot in the West. Vancouver, St. Louis,. Calgary... I don't see it unless a goalie really goes on a tear.

The second round is going to be a bear, though.

Meh, for a lot of haters have the Jets in a Cup or bust situation after predicting them to miss the playoffs this year. They're only 1st place in the league and +81 goal differential, what else do they have? Sportsnet will cancel their hockey contract next year if the Jet win the Cup and Gadzdic will still, pick them to miss the playoffs next year. I welcome that kind of respect. Hope the Jets shove it down their throats.

It's funny you say this because if you look at the other contending teams the Jets are getting equal/better scoring from their second and third lines then all the western teams:

We are getting significantly better scoring then Edmonton and Colorado. We are better then Vegas and comparable LA and slightly worse then Dallas now that they have Rantanen.

So if we have a depth issue then so does every western contender save Dallas
Yeah jets depth is by far their strength.

I suspect the Jets would be perfectly happy if their opponents thought the strategy was pretty simple and just shut down 13-55-81. I also suspect every single team in the league knows it isnt true and many have found out the hard way. The team has been at or near the top of the league the entire season. You dont do that by being a one trick pony.

absolutely. folks are forgetting how easily Ehlers is shut down when the hockey gets hard. he's already past his peak and only has 4 goals and 10 assists in 37 playoff games. huge reason why Winnipeg have the label that they do. 2nd lines hopes are riding on Namestnikov, who is a below average contending 2C, and a talented but small Perfetti.

they go as far as Helle wants.

Not sure about that... They should get a pretty easy 1st round matchup honestly.

They will however be quick work for Dallas or Colorado in round 2.

Good thing Adam Lowry has 6 goals in his last 10 playoff games.
There were some stretches this year when we tried Lowry centring Ehlers and l'il Nik played noticeably different.
He went to the net harder, got his nose dirty so to speak.
His playoff failures with us are pretty well documented but he also has excelled in big games in international hockey.

The team also has the best PP while being 21st in PP opportunities per game.
So they haven't needed a ton of PP's to do damage.
That is worth something.
