Are the Jets for real or are they going to crash and burn?

Jets just aren’t built for playoffs. You don’t win with losers like Scheifele.
I have made that argument all year on the Jets board because there is a blue print for beating them. It remains to be seen if Chevy can add a proper playoff piece or two unlike last years Monoghan/Toffoli experiment that seemed great on paper but not on ice.

Scheif is far from a loser. He is a highly skilled NHL player that has matured over the years. he seems more team oriented since Wheeler left. I would not call anyone who makes a career playing professional sport a loser given the hard work, dedication and talent required. Few players win titles look at Dan Marino, Milt Stegall, Josh Allen (thus far), Joe Thorton to name a few. These guys were all high quality , star athletes not losers because they could not win a championship.

14 goals in 17 playoff games in 2018.
Doesn’t play defense.

Scheifele doesn’t play any D.

Dylan Samberg is awesome and they need to sign him immediately. They need to replace Namestnikov (who is admittedly one of the most underrated players in the league) with a bonafide #2 C who can score, move Names down and they will be a problem in the playoffs. Finally.

If you have a world caliber goalie, which they do.
If you have a line that can really score, which they do.
If you have solid depth, which they do.

You have a chance at going deep. It's a good reminder that you don't have to 'blow it up' after a down season, and that sometimes all it takes is a little maneuvering in the locker room and a couple guys finding a new gear.

What does that have to do with your comment about not winning with Scheif? He is paid to score not stop goals. His d-zone play is suspect at time (2 fly bys on Saturday leading to goals) but then he makes up for it with his o-zone play. The key is team defence in playoffs , which he has to commit to for the Jets to meet the Leafs in the cup.

Toronto is for real. I think it's their year, finally.

I'm thinking ECF.

Where they go from there will be solely on Matthew's shoulders.

Every year it’s “this year”.

Observations:
Jet are 10W in Oct, 9W in Nov, 9W in Dec, and 9W in Jan. I'd say this is elite winning consistency.

Helle's season so far is much better then last season which he won the Vesina

Jets are 19-9-3 against all curent PO teams so far. Again elite consistency.

Jet's PP has come back down to Earth from 50% in Oct to 33.3% today. Almost 5% points ahead of 2nd place Vegas

Jets goal Diff is 64. 11 goals higher then 2nd place Wash.

Now that we are about 2/3 of the season done I would say these are top consistent SC contending numbers. Unless the Jets fall flat on their face for the rest of the season they will go in the PO's as a top 3 seed if not the top seed. Now they will have to prove it in the POs. Anything less then a WCF would be considered another fail season for the Jets even if they win the President's Trophy.

The Jets look really, really good. My only concern would be that Hellebuyck is on pace to start 64 games again this year and burn out in the postseason.
