Are the Jets for real or are they going to crash and burn?

I think most of the fans are just enjoying the ride right now. Helle is proving he is one of the best regular season goalies on the planet if not the best but he just needs to keep this going into the post-season. Things are just clicking so far. PP and PK look great, Helle is in top form, Vilardi/Perfetti/Ehlers/Samberg are having great seasons so far. But shooting % is likely unsustainable and the PP will eventually regress a little soon.

This pace of play is not sustainable over the long term but it is building a nice cushion. A string of loses will come at some point and we will see the mental makeup of the team to bounce back when it does. We have Dallas, NYR, Tampa, and Florida x2 coming up soon here so that will be a good barometer of where things stand in regards to more playoff calibre teams.

Still a long way to go but things look promising.

Really? Highest scoring team in the league ATM.

I think a big, mean mobile RHD in the top 4 is what is needed most. Like almost every team in the league.

I'm not even sure I really want to add anything at this point. Sure a big mobile RHD would be great but the odds of finding it without giving up a lot is pretty slim. So unless one falls into our lap somehow I think standing pat is probably a better path.

I'd love a really solid #2C. I'm pretty sure this is the first time we've asked for that.

Yeah that would also be on the shopping list but I just really don't want to give up anything of value. We have some great young players in the system and I want to see what they become. We have our 1st but no 2nd or 4th so I'm not all that keen to give that up either.

I'm eyeballing perhaps someone like Granlund in SJ, We'll see if Heinola gets a look when he comes off IR. Still to early to really be banking on anyone being available. Closer to the deadline we will have a better idea of what this team actually is.

I've really liked watching Morrisey this season. His career has flown under my radar for a while now but he's got a lot of talent. Someone said "peaking too soon" God I remember those threads from years ago. No, a team can't peak too soon. Good for the Jets that they're rolling right now. Hopefully this puts them in a position where they can take it a little easier after the deadline and rest up a bit for a long playoff run. Would love to see them win a Cup.

The only thing that's surprising about this thread is there aren't more people wondering if they'll actually make the playoffs. If the Maple Leafs were 13-1 to start the season, or the Oilers, the constant fellatio on this site and across Canadian media would be unbearable.

Good. Underestimate us. I prefer it that way.
Damn gurl, don't be so insecure.

To answer your question: Neither. They aren't the world beaters as the standings are suggesting, but they aren't chumps either. Last night against the Avs would have been lost if it weren't for Hellebuyck. Games will tip the other way. They'll just regress to the mean which is probably slightly above average.

Just posted this in the Winnipeg forum: The 2007-08 Senators were the last ones to go 13-1-0 at the start of the season. Three weeks later they were already 16-7-3, played .500 hockey for the rest of the season and finished with 94 points, which is exactly where the Jets would land with a .500 pace from here. I expect the Jets to do a little bit better, but not much.

They don't call Winnipeg 'Toronto West' for nothing.
I don't get this take either. The Jets haven't been consistent contender for the past 7 years or whatever like the Leafs. After the 2018 playoffs, the team rapidly fell off. They failed to reach 100 points in 2019 (and predictably lost to the hottest team in the league in the Blues, who had the same number of points), and then the team was a wild card level team up until last season. They played at a 92 point pace in 2020 and 2021, finished with 95 points in 2022, and then actually had a good regular season last year.

This is all despite having likely the best regular season goalie in the league.

They failed to make it past the first round of the playoffs because they haven't been a good team. Their regular seasons have reflected this.:dunno:

They are the one team who are eve Leafier than the Leafs with this stuff. They simply get dominated in the playoffs and don't put up much of a fight once the series is taken over by the opponent. Two years in a row of seeing that.

End of the day, these early season games are just entertainment. Outside of points for making the playoff, they have basically no impact to result of the season. We've seen in the past decade a lot of examples from the Blues being in last in Jan, to the Panthers just squeaking into the playoffs and going to the finals, to the Oilers being terrible their first 20 games and making the finals, etc.

Jets fans should enjoy it because that is the point of the sport, but in terms of relevance to the playoffs it means less than nothing.
Jets have at least been to the conference finals once unlike the Leafs who finally won a playoff series last year

I'm making no predictions. I deal with the present, not the past, and not the future, and the FACT is that at present...right now...the Jets are the best hockey team in the league. So I'm having fun with it. Being a sports fan became a more pleasant experience when I learned to enjoy the moment. I've supported the local football team that one year won the championship with an 8-8 record, and another year lost in the championship with a 14-4 record, and I can tell you that the 14-4 team has left me with far better memories, because they gave me six months of pleasure vs. one day of pain. I'll take that, any time.

Do I want the Jets to win the Cup? Of course I do! Will they? Probably not, which is the same answer I'd give for every other team...every single one.

But the stupidest take I'm reading here (and elsewhere), again and again and again, is the one that says they'll choke in round 1 because, well, because that's what they did the past two years.

You know which other team choked in the playoffs before they won the Cup? EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. OF. THEM!! That's how it works...duh!

It just drives some people crazy to think that a small market, Canadian team might a) be doing well; and b) making their fans happy.

It could all end tomorrow, and I'd be disappointed, but it doesn't change the fact that for the past month, they've been the best Jets team there's every been (and I've been a fan since day one in 1972), and also the best hockey team on the planet. Right now.

The past is finished. It doesn't matter. The future hasn't arrived. No one knows. All we've got is right now, and that's a gift. That's why we call it the present.

Come on that was in 2018 which is going to be 7 seasons ago. That is an eternity in the NHL, this current Jets team is not the team that did that. It is a completely different core and coaching staff. They haven't proven anything. I'm not even talking smack this is just facts.

Hey, it wasn't long ago that Maurice couldn't coach in the playoffs.

I think the Jets are a vg team, but not a great team, but i also don't see a lot, if any, great teams in the league. FLA, sure, and CAR is playing really well, but are they WPG East? Vegas is always tough.... I am not seeing a lot of teams that should really scare WPG.

I think this Jets team is for real. Underrated and very balanced blue line. Top three goalie in the league, arguably the best goalie this year so far. But I'm not 100% sold on coach Arniel yet.

They still need to pick up a #2C before the deadline. They're not good enough down the middle. I'm amazed that they're doing this well with Nameskotov as their #2C.

I'm enjoying the ride but the team always starts well and fades after Christmas. I don't think any team in the league is 13-1 worthy, the Jets have had some luck and a somewhat soft schedule but they've played pretty well during the streak as well.
