They're a good team but they're not as good as their record indicates IMO. Helle is an amazing regular season goalie and helps to cover up for some of the team's weaknesses, but he has struggled in the post-season (not necessarily all his own doing to be fair).

In the playoffs, I still favour Colorado, Dallas and Vegas from the West at this point in time. Even the Oilers who have been mid this year can still fall back on the experience of their multiple deep runs and get superhuman performances from Drai and McDavid that can be enough to beat Winnipeg. I can see the Jets getting past one of those teams, but not two or three.

The issue with Jets in past years was a lack of mental fortitude in playoffs. This year's team has been more resilient but they will have to prove it in the post season.

They’re the Leafs of the West. All their top players are chokers in the playoffs, except maybe Scheifele. They’ll choke again this year.

They are, but I don't think they match up well against certain teams. Their defense and Hellebuyck will need to step up. They lack star power at forward as well, at least as compared to some of the other top teams. When (arguably) your best forward is a winger, that generally doesn't bode well.

More worried about Oilers, VGK and Colorado as a Stars fan.

Jets like the Leafs, need to prove themselves during playoffs.

Are the Leafs a contender? I don't think so.

You need to exit the first round to gain some contender traction.

How do you do that before the playoffs have started?

You build a history of doing something in the playoffs. Both these teams have regular season greatness and first round demise, until they do something in the playoffs I'm not sure how either can be moved into the contender category.

If Jets make 2nd, 3rd round this year.. then have another 1st,2nd,3rd,4th place in the West next year.. then I say yeah they are a contender.

I really don't know if I would put Dallas on there. Goaltending has been saving their asses more this season than Winnipeg. Even with Heiskanen, the Stars defence looks bad. Last season in the playoffs, the Stars had a good defence thanks to Tanev.

Contenders are determined by regular season performance.

You don’t call someone a contender after half the playoffs are over, at that point yes everyone left is obviously a contender.

I don’t think you understand what ‘contender’ means

You know the term ‘number 1 contender’? You get called that BEFORE you win, not after

The Jets are the best team in the NHL. Yes they are contenders

This is going to be a fun one to revisit after the 2nd rd. It's a damn shame St. Louis got too hot and is taking the 1st WC, and Dallas couldn't quite reel in the Jets.

They'll have an easy time with Minnesota/Calgary. But I would've loved a matchup with Colorado/St. Louis

I think they at least need to make it to the conference final and win more than one game in said conference final before I would start believing in them. They haven't proven that they can make it past the second round since 2018 and even when they did they got curb stomped by the OG VGK.

Good group of forwards (when healthy), solid defense (sans Logan Stanley), and one of the best goalies in the league (in the regular season). Like others have said, they need to prove it. However, this looks like the season where they could.

Perfetti and Samberg have really made some strides this year. Add them as improved pieces to what was already a really good team, and they could do something this year.

I'm biased but I think so. The teams gonna be getting healthy really soon and even despite injuries they've held their ground. Vilardi still a question mark but I doubt he will miss more than a game or two.

Any team that is top 4 in the regular season is a contender.
Can they pull it all together in the POs has yet to be proven.
Until they do there is always doubt.
