Are the Caps this years biggest frauds?

In my opinion yes, I think they are bounced second round. However, I'm not passionate enough to get into it on here, just more of a feeling looking at that roster/knowing how well their goal tending has played.

I think "fraud" is a little bit rich but certainly they are not as good as the standings suggest. My guess would be a second round exit, which would be an improvement compared to the last several years. Capitals are a solid team. The problem is that Alex is being carried by Strome and Protas and I suspect he will run out of gas once playoffs start.

They are this years cinderella team. I think they come back down to earth next year. But their roster is a lot better than people give them credit for. This group lacks experience in the playoffs and I think they will be an easy out.

The combination of elite goaltending and elite offense can take a team a very long way. They've scored the 2nd most goals in the NHL and Thompson has been arguably the 2nd best goalie in the league this year. Nothing fraudulent about it.

Leafs aren’t passing Washington…

Way too much of a gap at this point and we aren’t a team who can win 7-8 in a row

I do see Carolina taking them out in the 2nd round. But I think if they play NJ, for example, it will be close.

I don't think they are as good as there record, but they have a deep team and good mix of guys plus good progression from Protas and McMichael, who are legit top 6 forwards. Chychrun and Dubois have been really good for them also and Thompson is having a Vezina quality year. They don't have a true superstar though, but they have some punch throughout the lineup that makes it tough for other teams.

Having watch them some and idk how they have 77 points.

How are they doing it?

I see they have 7 OT losses which has given them a but of an artificial lead over some of rest of the leaders in the east,

I see teams in the east getting past them easily.

Carolina, Florida, Toronto, maybe NJ.

They’d still be first in the East even if you removed all the OT/SO loss points.

Could any of the teams you mentioned beat Washington in a 7 game series?

Yes.

Could Washington also beat any of them in a 7 game series?

Also yes.

Sorry that they beat the Florida kitties last night. I watched the same game as you and the
difference was between the pipes.

I don't think the Capitals are actually a top-4 team in the league, but definitely in that 5-8 range.

Goaltending: Has been spectacular, and both goalies are great.

Defense: Has gotten a lot better, Chychrun has been good for years and is a huge addition, Roy has played good too and has been a great addition to the team. The rest of the D has been pretty consistent with last couple years.

Offense: Amazing depth that is just missing a true superstar. Strome, Wilson, Ovechkin are all having great seasons relative to their expectations. The young kids like Protas and McMichael (both 23) have taken huge steps in their development and are now finally impact players. Dubois is playing consistently like the best version of himself.

“Fraud” is definitely a strong word. But the stars and the universe anre aligning for them this year. Literally everything is going right. Would anyone be surprised if they miss the playoffs next year with the same roster? I certainly wouldn’t.
