Are the 2025 Montreal Canadiens the new 2019 St-Louis Blues?

Isn’t this question premature? MTL has to secure a PO spot first. I would prefer to see MTL in the POs but some of you guys are jumping the gun here.

lol maybe check your stats first, habs were 10th in the league at Christmas, not at or near the bottom.
So they’ve actually gotten worse since Christmas.
Dec 1 - I know "AKSHUALLY THATS NOT CHRISTMAS"

They're not St Louis but they've been a playoff team for a good part of the season.

Jesus Christ, no. More like the 2006-07 Thrashers

Seriously, 27 regulation wins (one more than Buffalo) and -21 goal differential (worse than Buffalo!). I know everybody likes a good underdog story, but Washington has a bye if they draw the Habs.

Just like the 2019 Blues, the 2025 Canadiens were a bottom team around Christmas time. They put a tremendous effort and barring a major collapse (won't happen IMO, other Eastern teams are too far behind), they'll make the playoffs.

So, do you see Montreal as a darkhorse for the 2025 Stanley Cup?
Of course not.

This might be a reasonable question if the Habs win a couple of rounds in the playoffs, but it's way too early to start comparing them to a team that won the Cup.

They're what, 10-9 in OT/Shootout?

27 Regulation Wins
30 Regulation Losses
10 OT/Shootout Wins
9 OT/Shootout Losses
-21 Goal Differential

They just look like a mediocre team that will likely be taking a soft WC2 spot.

missing a second line, second pairing, and legit starter. Monty may be fine in a few years when some of the holes are filled.

3-0

I can't see Montembault becoming god-mode Binnington, who was 90% of the reason St Louis won the cup in 2019. Boston outplayed them badly in the finals, but Binnington badly outplayed Tuuka Rask.

Playoff hockey is a whole different animal so anything can happen. Suzuki, Caufield, Gally and Andy will have to do some heavy lifting with their experience from our finals run. Hutson will have to be a superstar. Slaf will have to be a beast.

I think we have some horse to take us past the first round. But I wouldnt put money on that.

Yeah, year end stats are skewed because of the terrible start. Since Dec 1 they are 29-17-6 with 2 OT wins

100 point pace, legitimate playoff team.

Not likely to do any damage because of all the holes in the roster but certainly more fun than waiting for the draft lottery.

they are not very good defensively and and their forward group is greatly overhyped. will be a sad day for demidov when he joins them and will be pigeonholed to play with laine and newhook. yuck!

Feel like this is a great thread to showcase habs fans lol. Just a complete lack of awareness of what's going on in the league outside of their little bubble up there. How else can you explain this thread being created at the same moment as the actual STL team is cresting 13 straight wins  obviously there are some realistic ones in here too, but man!

They are nothing like the 2019 Blues.

2018-19 Blues had a lot of talent from the get-go, but were held back by poor coaching and infighting. The coach was fired and Berube took over. The Blues were an absolute machine from the start of 2019 through the finals. It was cool as hell to watch that team transform into what it should have been all along.

2024-25 Habs were not expected to even make the playoffs entering the season. Their coach has done a masterful job from day one to get his team to unite and play it's heart out every game. The Habs have caught fire late in the season, but if they make the playoffs, let's be honest, it will be partly due to so many EC teams being streaky to downright bad in the second half of the season.

Additionally, as valiant as the Habs' effort has been, they are not going deep in the playoffs, if they even make the playoffs. That does not take away from what the team has accomplished, just being realistic. Hutson should get the Calder. Suzuki has shown the league he's a legit superstar. MSL won't win the Jack Adams, but he should get some votes. And the future of the team looks bright.

As a Habs fan I don’t see it. They could do the usual Habs thing of upsetting their heavily favored 1st round opponent (I’ll give them a 35% chance), but I give them 0 chance of getting through Canes in the 2nd round.

Good to see they've put it together but I agree they're probably a couple years away from doing serious damage in the postseason. I think Demidov will be a key piece when he gets there.
