Are team's going to try to copy Florida's style?

I don't think their style is anything new or unique.

They're a relentless forechecking team and they're good at taking away space and time and are unpleasant to play against.

A lot of teams can try to play that way, but their success isn't predicated on playing scrappy, heavy hockey alone. They have a lot of talent and depth (and yes, they do have a few rat type players, making them all the tougher to play against). Hell, CAR plays a similar style but isn't as gritty or rough and doesn't have close to the high end talent or depth FLA has.

When Tampa was winning their Cups, they had unbelievable depth. PIT won one year with Crosby winning the Conn Smythe with 19 points.

Regardless of style, teams with elite talent and good depth are the ones that tend to come out on top.

Leafs are already doing this by signing all of our UFAs and making noise about trying to poach Sam Bennett. Problem for the Leafs is that they're the Leafs.
Ekblad, Bennett, Marchand UFA's. Priority #1 is resigning Ekblad. I don't know what happens to Bennett. He probably re-signs but wouldn't be surprised if a team offers a ridiculous contract and he takes it. Its going to be a fun summer. From a leafs POV, marner/tavares are UFA's and will free up a ton of cap space. I just hope they don't sign a long term NTC contract on average players...

There is always a team like the Panthers that shows up. In recent memory the Ducks, Kings, Bruins, and now the Panthers. It's not that easy to get the player buy-in and the organizational will. The on ice system is nothing all that exciting or novel, but the players buy-in more than I've seen from other teams.

The buy-in to the system is cool to see even though I detest the worms Tzachuk and Marchand and goalie head-smasher Bennett. A team on the same page-regardless of style-is going to be dangerous so long as the talent level is sufficient.

That being said, if I were an NHL GM, I'd really take a long look at my team's ability to play a physical game. Just as important, I'd look at the character of my roster in terms of if they stick up for teammates. Carolina's flat out cowardliness and unwillingness to stand up for teammates would be my anti model of roster building.

The utter destruction of Carolina by Florida and Toronto's inability to flourish in the playoffs almost necessitates that a team which is serious about becoming a SC Champion builds a roster with physicality and toughness. Just having top end offensive talent won't get it done IMO.

All the player have bought in, Maurice is a unreal coach, Zito isn’t scared to make huge trades and players are taking a little less cause they have something special in FLA.

It’s a winning culture that players want to be a part of

Three straight Stanley Cup finals. I would think teams will start to try to copy Floridas style as it's clearly successful in the playoffs. What do you think?
Hard to do if you don't have the players capable of executing it. Florida crash and bang hockey and heavy with agitation can only be replicated by Florida. They have Marchand, Bennett, Mikkola, Tkatchuk etc. Like how would any team currently playing or not playing copy the style Florida plays? For example can Canucks Pettersson copy they style of play of Tkatchuk? Its hard to replicate if you don't have the players and even if you do have the players of the same ilk can they actually be as agitating as Florida's top players? You would need to completely retool the team to employ Florida style play.

Zito is the mastermind behind Florida having the success they have. Zito is the one who hired Maurice so its all about Zito getting the right pieces to make his vision come true. They way he got Forsling for free, traded for Bennett when he was cheap to acquire and did get lucky that Tkatchuk chose Florida while having the pieces to trade for him is something only a genius GM can do. He had a vision and executed it to perfection and this is the result. He should win GM of the year, he is definitely the best GM in the NHL.

If that’s all you see watching the Panthers play, you really should watch more closely. Such a tired old narrative.
They’re a very skilled team don’t get me wrong, I just think they should have 25% more penalties than they currently have based on their play this playoffs. I just want consistent calling where refs don’t feel the urge to even up the calls.

Florida was already a good team and maybe coulda eventually won with Huberdeau and Weegar… but then Zito figures NOPE we aren’t good enough for a Cup so he trades them away(after a 115 point Huberdeau season) and acquires Matthew Tkachuk. Absolutely unbelievable… it’s unreal to see a GM have the balls that Zito does to make certain transactions

idk i'm obviously not implying that they're not enduring ANY physicality and taking ANY toll, but it's definitely less if they're playing teams that are smaller and less physical

Seven out of the 10 teams with the most hits, were Eastern Conference teams. Edmonton was last, Dallas 26th, Vegas 31st. The East has been the much more physical Conference over the past 5 seasons. The East also had a winning record against the West. The East has 3 of the last 5 SCs. The East has a winning record over the West over the past 5 years, meaning more wins, more points, if you needed that explained. So please, let the grownups speak, and take a nap.

LOL it's clear you don't watch any games outside of your own team's.

He wouldn’t even have been able (cap room) to re-sign both Hubie and Weegs to the raises they were expecting that summer. The timing on Tkachuk fell right in line and he made it happen. Brilliant move by Zito

I absolutely don't think they would have won with Uber Dough and weegar especially when they got swept in 1st round after winning the president's trophy. They had some good pieces but they were not good as they are now. I take Forsling and Tkachuk over weegar and Uber Dough any day of the week. Add in Bennett and it's not even close. I think one player they could have kept was Marchassault who was also a key player for Vegas winning the cup.
