Speculation: Are Rantanen, Kaprisov and Marner establishing themselves as 14M players in the new cap world

Any insight from these teams on if these players are going exclusively to cup contenders or if they would be willing to sign for 14+ on a team out of the playoffs?

I would love to bring Rantanen to the Jackets to turn them into a top tier offense in the next few years with KJ, Fantilli and the Russians but our needs on D and in goal probably make it too complex to pull off even if he was willing.

Ironically the worst playoff performer of the three is… Kaprizov. If there’s an odd one out in this list it’s Rantanen.

Yeah, the guy with a Stanley Cup, who outscores Marner every single season, is 6'4" 230 lbs. and turns his game up in the playoffs is the odd one in the list.

Incredible Leafs bias.

Marner has never hit 100 points, is 180 pounds soaking wet, and a perennial playoff choker who Leaf fans want to murder from April-October every year.

Dude I said odd man out... as in he's the only one with playoff success.

I think Edmonton should make a run at whichever makes to UFA, and I say that unironically. They're already going to be top-heavy, so they might as well lean into it.

Bet on a line of Draisaitl-McDavid-Rantanen/Kaprizov scoring 4 goals a game and not giving up 5.

That would make a lot more sense if there was a top tier defenseman hitting UFA.

when you have plugs like Slafkovsky making $7.6M as RFA's, it's pretty hard to justify a UFA with Marners production staying at $11M

It's rather easy in fact: you just have to look to how useless Marner was for years in playoffs for Toronto, and how big of a part he had to Play into turning the Maple Leafs into the butt of the joke of the NHL

At 7,6M, at least you're banking on the fact that Slafkovsky can't be worse than Marner in the playoffs
