Are goalies the most sheltered (from criticism) athletes in the world?

Between coaches never blaming goalies publically because they don't want to call out one player and fans who think that blaming a goalie is a cop out so they blame the defense and sometimes offense for lack of support. Maybe this is not the case with every fanbase. I know Avs fans have had it with Georgiev and Pens fans with Jarry. But it seems like because goalies are on an island to avoid calling out one player rather than the entire team they are often sheltered.

I've seen this with other positions in sports. I know that often as wild as it sounds you hear QBs treated like this. John Mara's famous "we did everything we could to screw this kid up" with Daniel Jones. And the nonstop apologists to this day that blame the weapons and offensive line and think Jones got screwed. But overall QB also gets a ton of criticism. To me goalie is one of the sweetest gigs you can have if you want a job where you're absolved from criticism.

Maybe it's just a Rangers thing then, lol. But I would bet anything that no HC ever has said Skinner had a bad game because it'll be calling out one player.

The other day Patrick Roy defending Sorokin for giving up a lead and saying how mad he'd be at the rest of the team is the kind of stuff I'm thinking of. Though to be fair I didn't see that particular game and Roy was a goalie.
 
Coaches and players rarely throw each other under the bus. The coaches can yell at a player on the bench and that will attract eyeballs. Hard to yell at the goalie from the bench to the net.

Knoblauch isn't an emotional/vocal guy. He's not really the type to throw players under the bus. If he doesn't like you, you'll know it though. Jeff Skinner knows it.

These were Woodcroft parting comments from being canned by the Oilers. Not saying his name, but he's pretty much saying Skinner lead to his firing without saying it.

It was subtle enough where you could miss it if you weren't paying attention. However, it's much more subtle than comments coaches make about the defense because the defense is all the skaters.

He basically complimented the D-core saying they weren't giving up much. You could include the whole team in that too I suppose. Probably include the whole team in the generating plenty of chances comment. I never found it that subtle, I just think he was being professional. He clearly believed the goaltending cost him his job. I'd 100% agree with that assessment.

There's no code. Lundqvist was an all time great goalie in the regular season, his postseason was more mixed. But he was beyond reproach no matter how badly he was playing. But considering he was arguably the best goalie over a 10 year or so period in the NHL and a first ballot HOFer I get it. People think that this is Shesterkin. It's not. This is not Aaron Rodgers replacing Brett Favre. This is Jordan Love at best.
 
...you shoulda been on the Habs boards a handful of years ago...half the fanbase there at the time wanted Price's head after a loss despite the fact that he WAS the damn team for a decade...yeah, NHL coaches tend not to call out the goalie in public, especially young goalies, but they definitely aren't immune to it in house...

Maybe if he pulled Skinner after his first playoff collapse he'd still have a job, McDrai might even have a Cup, and who knows, Campbell might even still be in the league!

No surprise Woodcroft is still looking for work 14 months later... Also doesn't help that the Oilers went on a team-record win streak after being a basement dweller and literally all they did was fire their coach.

Being a goalie is the hardest job mentally in the game what are you on about name me a more difficult position.
 
What? Goalies often get blamed for losses even when they aren't their fault, and receive plenty of criticism.

The ones most sheltered from criticism are the NHL refs. There is no quality control, and there are no repercussions. Got the job once? You'll keep it until you retire. If anyone dares call your terrible reffing out, it's them that get punished, not you.
