Have the refs watch it once in real time. If they can’t spot it move the f*** on since it wasn’t important enough to factor into the goal.

Also if both teams get possession of the puck after said offsides occurred tough shit and move on.

There is a lot more trips, holds, and other uncalled penalties that resulted in goals than missed offsides ever accounted for.

Opposing team needs to immediately indicate they’d like to challenge an offsides the moment it occurs. If a goal happens on that possession, then the challenge goes into effect.

These challenges should be intended to catch egregious errors where an opposing team believes the officials missed a call. They should not be used to allow some off ice video coach to spend 1 minute slowing things down frame-by-frame to determine if someone was 5mm offsides.

Its probably the worst rule they have ever introduced. As a fan never knowing if you can celebrate a goal takes the best part out of being a fan. Human error can happen, there was one egregious offside and now we have to have stoppages every goal. Also takes away a teams momentum. Sometimes they challenge sometimes they dont its terrible to never actually know.

At the very least make a rule that if there is a change of possession or a time lapse of 15 seconds then its not reviewable.

this only became a rule because of the Matt Duchene 2 feet offside goal (years ago). Its black or white, so they dont really have a choice but to do it this way.

in other words, you cant say "well it was close so will let it slide" but then say its ok to recall a Duchene type offside.

Yeah I agree with you that if you're going to do it, it has to be this way.

However I dont' want them to review offsides at all. I think this whole review system came as a result of a play (Duchene) that was so absurd and outside the lines of normality that these reviews take away the meaning of it as well as the agency of linesmen who are, by and large, excellent.

I would rather put full control of offsides back in the hands of the linesmen.

I can't really complain about them wanting to get a call correct, considering it's one of the few rules that they can't make up as they go.

Personally I think that if the league isn't going to enforce the rules they should be consistent. I'd vastly prefer they continued to utilize their rulebook during the playoffs, or publish a post-season set.
