The amount of times that quote was misinterpreted. He said it in the sense that he couldn't expect loyalty from free agents (in this case Radulov). There's reasons to dislike MB but I'm just tired of seeing this quote used wrong. He was right, just because he brought back Radulov to the NHL didn't mean he could re-sign him for cheap. That's it. Some players can be loyal/take small discounts, but you can't plan expecting it as a GM.

You should check the date when he said that. July 2nd. Had he said that dunno in April i would agree with you. But he said that when Radulov was already testing the market. The question was a little bit stupid since there was no loyalty to be expected from anyone July 2nd but there was a millions of ways to better answer that question. One of them by just saying it was Radulov's right to test the market and it was just business. Instead he decided to make another of those Playstation comment he was known for.

That quote wasn't misinterpreted. I remember hearing it well. It had bitter undertones and was tactless considering the team still had a chance to sign him. He let his ego and pride get the better of him once again.

He does not need to never fight, but a couple like Kassian and the ones in pre-season and he will be feared and respected MORE if he plays the game hard but seriously and does not desdend to trolling.

Robinson was a devastating fighter and never had more than 76 minutes in penalties and averaged 40 per season for his career.
Agreed!

I brought this up in the preseason. He should not be fighting the other team's meat heads in gladiator challenges but reserve it for the moments where an answer to aggression is actually important. If this was about Montembeault then I am cool with it, otherwise leave the other teams sh*tters on the ice to be exposed. He looks like he is going to be an important player who may very well be a legitimate top 4 defender and a contender for the most feared man in hockey. Our own version of a meaner Byfuglien is possible here even though he is smaller at 238 lbs lol. The kid has good hands and should make more of an effort to protect them.

This is not to say that I didn't enjoy the sh*t out of the fight because I certainly did! I definitely felt the primal chimp emerging from the dark recesses of my mind lol

The same maestro who traded Sergachev for Drouin? The guy who signed Hoffman? The same maestro who threw random shit at the wall with no plan for a decade and some of it stuck?
That's what we call a "selective memory ". :biglaugh:
Ok, we all know he didn't win that trade, but to name only this one is far to be honest. Name me one single GM that has won all his trades, or that only signed free agent that went well. I am waiting...

Totally agree that GM's make good and bad moves all the time. The bigger issue with MB was like Golden Serpant said, his moves never seemed to follow any sort of plan. It was like each individual move was judged as a standalone and never with a clear end goal in mind. Building was not an MB strong suit but he did a good job winning individual trades (for the most part).

On a separate note, whoever is calling MB the maestro has to be trolling....that nickname is the most cringeworthy thing I've read on these boards.

Remember when he signed Chariot and the haters were out in full force, then Chariot yielded us a 1st round pick and people think Hughes is some kind of magician? Nevermind that Chiarot was also the one to spot Xhekaj.

Good times.
Remember when he signed Armia to that extension?

well, that was his biggest trade, which had the biggest impact. He lost that hands down.

It's like he was playing blackjack all day at the Casino, won a coup[le of hands here and there, lost a few... then at the end to make a statement he went all in, and lost everything.

gambling is a hell of a way to manage a business.

His biggest trade ? lol
Maxpac ,? dealing a 25-30 goals scorer was his bigger trade. Not the one of Sergachev who was even not in the NHL at that time.
PK/Webber ?
Danault ?

Max, PK, Danault (let walk) were all expiring contracts, he took the best offers (even wanted glass instead of suzuki). The Drouin Trade was a need for need to create a core. terrible. So Max was pure luck with Suzuki, PK should have been dealt to Edmonton for Draisaitl pick, and well Danault was a decent pick up, if still unable to score.

I would argue that the Galchenyuk for Domi trade was very good though, and ofcourse Domi for Anderson.

Old regime would have benched him or sent him down with all the pinches he does, so glad this current one isn't doing that. He's really solidifying himself as an NHLer. Undrafted in the OHL, undrafted in the NHL, good player in the NHL next year... so damn likeable (well at least for us, not other teams lol)
