Player Discussion Arber Xhekaj the Sheriff Returns Edition

Thought he had a very good game last night, he played physical but didn't run around and put himself out of position by doing so. Don't blame him at all for the penalty given there's no reason a 6'4" player should go down that easy on a little pick like that.

One thing that would help him is having a partner who can quickly move the puck, he struggles getting the puck out at times and having someone like Savard as his partner doesn't help in that regard. I think having a partner like Reinbacher or Carrier next year would be a huge help for him.

Arber's shot needs to be used. On PP2. Matheson is doing absolute dog shit job at the blue line on PP. Oh well.. we all know that won't happen.

I honestly don't think I've seen a single pundit bring up the season long inability for matheson to get a shot through. He's one of the better skaters in the league but is incapable of gaining the quarter step necessary to get clear of a defender 96.666 (repeating of course) percent of the time.

No because Arber isn't good enough by himself. Although you could maybe use two D men out there and have Arber just blasting away one timers with traffic in and around the net.

Yep, so is McMichael trying to concuss Caufield but missing, Wilson buttending Hutson and Ovechkin doing the chicken wing on Evans. Those are completely fine. Talk a little smack though and you get fined.

All Arber did was to stare at them, the caps lost their shit, the NHL got scared.

The only reason we don’t have 2 dmen on PP2 is because “analytics” stipulate that more forwards (pure skill guys to be more precise) the better on the power play. Of course if you skim the dust off the rest of the page it says “make sure the forwards are actually good”

A defenseman who has a damn good shot and gets through is...Maillioux.

I scouted him for 15 game of the season and in the very last game i saw him he looked like an NHL defenseman. I don't have a clue if he turned the corner but he went from a goat for most of those games I saw him in, to a combo of Guhle and Math. He was a terror in front of the net and the boards as well as going on a several offensive excursion, of which two almost turned into goals.

The guy has me baffled. He has run the entire gamut of me wondering if he was on something and the IQ of Jethro...to what we dreamed he would be.

I got two scouting targets, Mailman and Rein. These playoffs are going to be interesting to see what happens...

One thing I sense is that MSL really likes Mailloux.

We shall see about that...given that SMarty is forgiving to some and sits others.

M biggest goals against was when he pinches. I use to blame him for his decision making but then it was happening to all the defenseman. A bit closer attention and my opinion shifted in that the forwards were simply not playing a 200 ft games. It became really apparent when they had a long range overhead shot and you can see the forwards simply go on cruise control on those 2 on 1's.

For sure M make mistakes and misreads, but it's going to be much better in the NHL because the forwards are far more defensively responsible.

In fact on the game I talked about in the previous post, it went from "oh F, you're going to get caught" only to be surprised to see his position get covered by a forward. Even more surprised that it happened several times.

Anywho...offensive defenseman can and will be caught and pay a price. Hutson has shown that a dozen times. It's the nature of the beast...

I don't understand why you guys think he's a good player for us. He takes stupid penalties like Subban used to but he can't shoot or can't skate like Subban. He can fight though.

The league is turning alot of good fans off with this level of absurdity. They let violence go unchecked but they make this an issue...
You want the violence to escalate? The refs need to be better, but I want to see a clean game.

That was the premise of my point, the violence is allowed to continue and that has to stop. Blatant crosschecks to the face right in front of the refs...what the heck is the Department of Player Safety's job?
I want clean, hard hitting hockey, no blatant intent to injure and I also want refs to be more consistent.

Did I miss something?

Whatever he did I guess it's worse than crosschecking guys in the teeth.

There is zero need for this. They’ve been taking liberties with our players all series and have had a fraction of them called.

Then you’re gonna go after Arbs for talking shit. It better have been pretty f***ing vile because this is absolute horseshit.

Just f***ing call the dirty stuff you f***ing morons
