Player Discussion Arber Xhekaj the Sheriff Returns Edition

Soft soy boys were wrong again! We need Xhekaj in the lineup for a physical playoff series.

No Xhekaj = No win
He was literally a non-factor except for the goal against. Game wouldn't have played out any differently with Struble in the lineup. Last change let Marty feast on their lineup with good matchups.

Yikes.

Yes, he didn't clear the puck but he got back to his position. But where are the forwards to cover Chychrun?

I was being sarcastic. Some posters ripped Xhekaj hard on that goal, saying 100% on him, also calling him an AHL calibre defender. Yes he didnt clear, but then Demi could have stopped the goal by covering Chychrun but didnt, and then Monty could have stopped that shot and didnt.

Meanwhile in the first two games I saw major gaffs leading to goals by Carrier, Savard , Hutson, Struble, but nothing much said.

Xhekaj should be a regular in our lineup. Damn i love what he brings. Yea, he made a error on the second goal, but he didn’t play for 3 weeks and first playoffs game of his career and with all the build up the series had.

Suck it up, MSL.

You're right.. he's still young, he's not some washed up vet.

We need to develop him, he can improve a lot and get better.

As is he brings something huge for the team already.

What sometimes we forget is that this kid went undrafted twice in the OHL, twice passed over in the NHL draft and somehow he has become an NHL Dman.
This kid is simply a great story and I think that is why he is so appreciated amongst Habs fans.
We all love an underdog. Also, as a fan of over 50 years I saw many Habs teams, some were so bullied that it was embarrassing. The game is still a game of intimidation and Arber Xhekaj is needed.

I truly believe he makes a difference just by being in the lineup. This is something St Louis has to learn to accept. He loves fast, high IQ hockey, but sometimes you just need a guy to run through others like Anderson and Xhekaj do.

I think the light came on inside Marty's head tonight...he sees what toughness can bring now.

EVERYBODY was playing hard, tough game. No one was avoiding checks. Everybody was playing like they were a foot taller.

Tell me again how much of a difference X makes 8n tne guys confidence and swagger? ?

Did he have to fight?

Did he drop his gloves?

THAT is why some of us wanted X to play.
There's merit to this but the team has been fighting hard the whole time. Especially in the 3rd period of last game.

I'm glad X was in the game. I'd have never removed him but you're giving him way too much credit here. Home series in front of an insane crowd... we were coming out hard no matter what.

That being said, I agree that X probably gave everyone a little more confidence. I think having him in was the right move. And replacing Struble was the right move. I think Struble's better than Savard but he shoots left so... it was him or X.

This couldn’t be further from the truth. Everyone who has played competitive hockey or competitive sports know that there is more to the game and Xhekaj brings certain intangibles you can’t measure with analytics.

Everyone plays bigger and he brings confidence to the group. There is a reason Josh Anderson and many others played their most physical and best game of the season, they knew they had the Sheriff backing them up.

The thing is that we have 2 young D in Struble and Xhekaj who are pretty much on the same level they have good streches and some bad but without knocking on Struble because he is not bad in any means , they are 3rd pairing D's and Xhekaj brings elite toughness which Struble does not have

It's not a coincidence that tonight we had 46 hits everybody plays bigger with Xhekaj in the line up and in the series it matches Duhaime and Wilson on the other side , Duhaime was much more quiet tonight because Anderson took care of Wilson and Duhame new Xhekaj was there for him were as the two first game Anderson was on Wilson and Duhaime was running wild

Xhekaj will make mistakes but will always have his team mates back and the team plays better like this

By the way thats my first post after reading here for a year finally decide to get an account

cheers guys and go habs go

The team had 46 hits because they were jacked up playing at home, not because Xhekaj was in the lineup lmao. Ridiculous to attribute that to a single player, let alone one that didn't do anything special tonight.

Anderson was far more involved physically. If there's a player that rallied the troops in game 3, it's him, not Xhekaj.

Struble had zero hits in the two games he played.

Zero.

Xhekaj ran over a few guys tonight, had 4 hits, intimidated the Caps from the warmup, and gave the team a swagger that they only have when he’s in the lineup.

I saw a young man, come in from the press box from not playing for a month, and immediately stopped the Habs from being pushed around like they have been in the previous two games.

Josh Anderson was ecstatic he was in the lineup, a guy that’s been doing the bulk of the physical heavy lifting. Talked about how important he was and how much he and the entire team appreciated having him back. But what would those guys know?
